Chasing the Wind

Based on a true historical event. During the Hongwu era of the Ming dynasty, Dao Tong, magistrate of Panyu County, stood up to the powerful and cracked down on local tyrants and bullies. He was falsely accused by Zhu Liangzu, the Marquis of Yongjia. Zhu Yuanzhang ordered Dao Tong's execution, but soon received a memorial from Dao Tong recommending Zhu Liangzu. This revealed to him the many crimes Zhu Liangzu had committed by sheltering local bullies and tyrants and oppressing the people. Zhu Yuanzhang immediately sent messengers to Panyu to pardon Dao Tong. The two messengers arrived on the same day, but the first was slightly faster. By the time the second arrived, Dao Tong had already been killed. Zhu Yuanzhang deeply regretted it. The following year, he summoned Zhu Liangzu and his son to the capital and had them flogged to death in the palace.
