The Shadow Guard Offers Himself to Me

When the late emperor died, Prince Chu, a man who had always been obscure, split open the long night and led his troops into the palace, seizing control of the court with thunderous force.

He hid a steely resolve beneath a calm exterior, settling the fate of the realm with a smile.

Yet just as everyone thought he would ascend to the throne and proclaim himself emperor, he knelt before the palace steps and bowed his head to his imperial nephew, Feng Lin, pledging his allegiance.

Uncle and nephew were close, and ruler and subject were harmonious. Who would not call it a beautiful tale?

Prince Chu, Feng Qi, thought so too.

His background was wretched, but Feng Lin had always stayed by his side. To Feng Qi, Feng Lin was a torch in the dark and a candle in the cold of winter. Having found such a person, he was devoted to him without wavering.

Until a dagger struck in the dead of night seven years later, shattering his heartfelt devotion.

At the crucial moment, one of the assassins suddenly turned on his allies and saved Feng Qi's life.

He was one of Feng Lin's shadow guards.

The next time Feng Qi saw him, it was in the Imperial Prison. The man had failed his mission and was barely alive.

Feng Qi brought him back to his residence to recuperate. When asked why he had saved him, the shadow guard knelt on the ground and offered himself to Feng Qi.

The man before him was nothing like the type Feng Qi liked.

He was handsome, rough, and agile; he was obedient, devout, and submissive.

Looking down at him, Feng Qi felt something awaken in a primeval wilderness.

Feng Qi began to notice this silent man.

He began to understand that while he had endlessly pursued the bright torch, a firefly had also been following behind him. All he had to do was turn around to see it.

A faint glimmer of light is far better than the blazing sun.
