The five masters compete for the title of the greatest under heaven in the "Mount Hua Sword Tournament." They were thought to be fictional characters from martial arts novels, but these five people really existed in history.
According to the Northern Song's Gastronomer's Manual, today's five great culinary masters are Eastern Heretic, medicinal cuisine; Western Venom, poison cuisine; Southern Emperor, imperial cuisine; Northern Beggar, beggar's chicken cuisine; and Central Divine, vegetarian cuisine. The five famous chefs compete for the title of greatest chef under heaven in the "Mount Hua Knife Tournament."
