Sun Wukong, also known as the Handsome Monkey King, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, and Sun Xingzhe, is a character invented in Journey to the West. He is a divine monkey who leapt from a stone that had absorbed the essence of the sun and moon. He wields the Golden Cudgel, rides on a somersault cloud, and is skilled in the Seventy-Two Transformations, capable of myriad forms. Many people even worship him as a deity.
I've often wondered: if a figure named Sun Wukong had really existed in history, what kind of personality would he have had? What would the historical setting of his life have been like? How would Sun Wukong have survived in the real world?
These thoughts inspired this story, which portrays Sun Wukong in the real world as a person with genuine human nature, no longer a monster or deity, and unable to perform the Seventy-Two Transformations or take on countless forms.
Through his very human nature, we see how he made his mark in history: accomplishing great feats that shook the heavens and moved the spirits, becoming the widely renowned Great Sage Marquis.
