A House Full of Gold and Jade

(This book was originally titled The Comforting Days After Losing Her Husband, but the title was deemed inappropriate, so it had to be changed.) Gu Yin fainted from working overtime. When she opened her eyes again, she had become a young farmer's wife. The poor girl had been sold as a child bride when she was young. After finally enjoying a few peaceful years, her husband was forcibly conscripted by the imperial court and vanished without a trace, leaving behind only a blustering, timid mother-in-law and a tiny younger brother-in-law. Gu Yin refuses to wallow in misery. She uses her family's traditional skills to set up a stall and open a shop, and proves that a woman can build a thriving life all on her own. As their lives get better and better, her mother-in-law advises her to remarry while she's still young, and even finds her an honest, refined poor scholar. Then, on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, a man who should have died in battle long ago suddenly comes home... Wu Qingyi devoted the first half of his life to his country and its people. He had done right by his brothers and the world, but he had failed the mother, little brother, and beloved wife who died in a flood... With the realm finally at peace, Wu Qingyi is named Grand Marshal of All Armies. His first order of business is to return to his hometown and find his family's graves. As it happens, the day he gets back is the fifteenth day of the seventh month. "Wife! There's a ghost!" His mother is still as loud and spirited as he remembers. "Sister-in-law, help!" His little brother has grown up just as he imagined. "What shameless rat dares to play ghost in front of the Wu family home?!" His beloved wife (?) from his memories charges at him, waving a cleaver... "Don't bully my mom!" A boy of about five or six rushes over too... Wu Qingyi: ??? Can someone explain to him how he could have a five-year-old child after being away from home for eight years??? Reader's Guide: 1. Character inspirations provided by @Dameimei Fafa. 2. A lighthearted, everyday story about family life and farming. The child mentioned in the blurb is not her biological child. The second half of the blurb is from the male lead's perspective. He appears late, but there is no change of male lead. 3. This is not a grim chronicle of hardship. It takes liberties and lets the imagination run wild. Serious literature isn't my thing. 4. Most of the food in the story is based on cooking videos, not recipes invented by the author. 5. The dynasty is fictional, with plenty of made-up details and no historical basis. Please don't nitpick the historical accuracy. 6. Feel free to criticize the characters. If you criticize me, I'll clutch my heart and lie down at your doorstep. I've already decided to make a fuss. Theme: Don't let adversity make you miserable
