During the summer vacation after ninth grade, on a drowsy afternoon, cicadas called endlessly outside the window. Tao Ye was lying on his bed, half asleep. Just as he was about to drift off, he heard someone reciting lessons in a monotonous chant. He listened for a while, then couldn't help getting up and leaving his room.

His dad was eating watermelon in the living room and watching the midday news. Tao Ye took a quarter of the watermelon upstairs.

When Na Xia heard the door open, she put down her book and turned around. "What are you doing here?"

Tao Ye had one hand in his pocket and leaned against the door. "I'm here to shut you up."

During class break, He Xun was chatting animatedly with his classmates when someone suddenly smacked him on the head. He turned around and protested, "Damn, what was that for?"

Tao Ye pushed his head aside and looked at Na Xia, who was sitting diagonally across from him, eating and laughing. The corners of his lips curled up slightly. "You were blocking my view of the idiot."

After he said that, Na Xia sneezed and rubbed her nose. She met his gaze and gave him a silly smile.
