[Visit my author page and add my next story, A Maid's Difficult Lot, to your favorites] In the third year of the Qianfeng era, the state was gradually finding peace. The new emperor held a selection to fill the imperial harem. The orphaned Su Panqin traveled to the capital to be considered. Everyone thought she was utterly ordinary, and would never catch the emperor's eye. Yet twenty years later, after the tides had turned, the emperor's favor for her remained unwavering, and his love for her ran deep. Reborn as a cannon-fodder supporting female character who dies in the first three chapters of a novel, Su Panqin took twenty years to carve out a place for herself in the imperial harem. Aside from remembering not to eat the poisoned pastries from the original story, Su Panqin truly had no idea what else was going to happen! With a plain, pretty face and an ordinary family background, how did she rise from Seventh-Rank Court Lady to one of the four First-Rank Consorts? Someone, please explain! A palace-intrigue story with a touch of farming: avoiding open attacks and guarding against hidden arrows, she sets out to be a good consort! Theme: Self-preservation
