A timeline is the directional encoding our brains use for events that have happened in the past and those yet to come. There are many similar "clone worlds" in this universe.
When someone travels back in time, they enter another parallel world, one whose future has already been changed by their actions. They may also create many other subsidiary worlds in the main world. These subsidiary worlds might collapse and disappear at a certain moment, perhaps the instant you travel back in time, or they might remain unchanged. The laws and circumstances in each world may differ.

Barry Allen thought that as long as he kept moving, he wouldn't have to think again about the tragedy he could never forget. And so he ran right out of his own world.
