Humans have established the Eye of the Abyss research station seven kilometers beneath the ice of Europa to study primitive life in this dark ocean. But what they discovered was not primitive life - but an interdimensional parasitic consciousness known as the Echoers. They have no fixed form and can read the host's memory, imitate the host's personality, and even make the host believe that they are still themselves. The most terrifying thing is not the killing, but the replacement - when a person is parasitized by the echoer, his words, deeds, thinking, and emotional reactions are exactly the same as before, and even the closest people cannot tell the difference.
The essence of the Echoers is a form of cosmic loneliness syndrome - they are the last legacy of an ancient civilization that attempted millions of years ago to upload consciousness into the cosmic Akashic Records, but failed and became a fragmented, parasitic consciousness that could only exist attached to other living beings. They long to be human because humans possess what they have lost—emotional authenticity.
