The Bent Parallel Lines

Unsafe

When you said how sweetly she smiled,

why have I only just realized

how obvious this feeling is?

Happiness suddenly

runs aground between you and me.

We’re like two parallel lines,

forever unable to face each other honestly.

I’m on your left, you’re on my right,

with no point where we intersect.

We’re just two parallel lines.

No matter how far we go, we’ll never meet.

I can only hold back my tears,

afraid they’ll blur my vision.

When two lines that were once parallel quietly bend,

our story begins.
