An Episode in the Life of Chong'er, Duke Wen of Jin

News report, March 22: During a rescue excavation of a Northern Dynasties tomb complex near Hohhot, the Inner Mongolia Bureau of Cultural Relics unearthed a national-treasure-grade rectangular Lantian jade seal, exquisitely carved with a pair of chi dragons and fitted with a flat knob. Strangely, the seal was unfinished and bore no inscription, making it impossible to identify the tomb's owner. Carbon-14 testing by experts determined that the tomb dates no later than the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. More astonishing still, the tomb where the Lantian jade seal was found was an ordinary, small burial. Its occupant was a young woman, and apart from this national treasure, no other valuable burial goods were discovered. News report, May 1: During the Golden Week holiday, nearly 70 million tourists flocked to Shanxi Province. To capitalize on the holiday travel boom, Houma County held its first Wisteria Tourism Festival. Wisteria blanketed the hills like purple mist, making visitors feel as if they had entered a fairyland. Notably, a thousand-year-old wisteria vine in the county has come back to life once again, putting out new blossoms. According to officials from the Houma County Tourism Bureau, the vine had withered as far back as the Song dynasty, so its blooming now is truly a miracle of nature.
