Years

For so many days, we simply watched, like watching water gush from a broken faucet in the bathroom, as our own time slipped away.

At first, perhaps we would reach out and turn off the tap, trying to hold on. But as time went by, we grew silent and resigned.

Flow on, flow on, endlessly flowing. We bid farewell to peach blossoms and radiant spring days.

Only when a pebble tripped us did we feel we ought to look back.

Looking back along the way, we discovered that what we had been treading on were fragments of memories from the past. Shattered glass strewn everywhere.

And the years, years like water, had passed just like that.

Never to return.
