The Last Person

December 1, 2012. Cloudy, with moderate to heavy rain. 12 to 14 degrees. Twenty days until the "end of the world."

The end of the world was being discussed on TV and online. Even the merchants on shopping websites were putting up slogans like "Shop even if the world is ending." As if none of it were real, Xu Jing sat at her desk, surrounded by piles of books.

Xu Jing's eyes skimmed rapidly across the pages as she made notes in her notebook. The five-centimeter-thick notebook was already more than half full.

Xu Jing was afraid of dying.

But when the end came, she chose to die.
