I Became a Top Student by Slacking Off

Wei Rong, male, consistently ranks in the top ten of his grade. His intelligence is undeniably outstanding, but there is a vast gulf between being outstanding and being extraordinary.

Some people are born with brains made to break through limits. He was just a little short of that.

Then one day, something calling itself the "System for Achievements in Unproductive Pursuits" came looking for him.

[The Host can earn attribute points by achieving success in fields that others consider unproductive.]

Wei Rong looked at the six options on the panel, "Intelligence," "Physique," "Charm," and so on, and asked, "Can I put all the points into Intelligence?"

The System fell silent. [...Are you sure? Most people choose a balanced, ]

[All of them. Thanks.]

From then on, things started getting weird:

Two days before the multi-province joint entrance exam, he was still up all night battling it out in a game.

[Achievement unlocked: attracting a thousand spectators in gaming. Attribute points awarded: 2.] The next second, Wei Rong put them straight into Intelligence.

[Intelligence +2]

Classmates: "Wei Rong was up all night gaming again. Sigh, even top students go off the rails."

Teacher: "What a shame. He just won't listen. He could've made it to Tsinghua or Peking University."

A week later, the results came out. Wei Rong ranked first in the entire school and got a perfect score in science.

The whole class: ???

Gradually, everyone realized that Wei Rong's unproductive pursuits had no effect on his exam scores.

Two days before the CMO Mathematical Olympiad, he was at the awards ceremony for the platform's Most Popular Streamer of the Year.

When NOI announced the members of the national training team, he was at a popular game's esports academy.

In the end, he stood on the Nobel Prize stage, and a reporter asked him how he felt.

Wei Rong thought for a moment, then answered earnestly:

"I just want to do scientific research."
