Mu Xia is face-blind and completely human. She has no idea what Guides and Sentinels are, and can’t tell ordinary little animals from spirit companions. As soon as she arrives in this other world, she’s faced with rent coming due, a lost job, an empty home, and not a coin to her name.
Fortunately, good people get good things in return: she inherits a “Nonhuman Care Center” and two thousand Federation credits.
In the deserted courtyard, a blind black cat, a limping dog who can’t lift its tail, a silver fish as skinny as a dried-up fish, and even a potted plant on the verge of death are all waiting for her to save them.
They may be huge, but hey, it’s another world. That’s normal!
It turns out the “Nonhuman Care Center” is a multi-service pet clinic. The animals need checkups, boarding, grooming…
To avoid ending up homeless, Mu Xia grits her teeth and gets to work.
She opens for business and starts taking customers!

A new Guide arrives at the White Tower and opens a spirit companion care shop next to the Sentinel military academy. The Sentinels don’t think much of it.
Hmph, who needs that sort of thing? They’re brave, fearless, aloof, proud warriors, nothing like those pets that just meow. Combat and bloodshed are what they’re made for!
Only weak-willed people become women’s playthings!
But the little Guide cheerfully greets them every day. She invites them inside and even gives their spirit companions snacks.
They look away for a moment, and their spirit companions have run off. One head pat is all it takes to leave them dizzy, and one smile from the Guide later, a chunk of money has vanished from their wallets. They’ve signed up for an annual membership.
The mental breakdowns that torment Sentinels become as docile as puppies beneath her hands.
No matter how difficult the condition, a jab from the Guide’s tail stinger is enough to make the medicine work its magic.
The gifted top student’s black panther spirit companion makes a tiny, squeaky sound under her hand. The club-tailed gecko panics and yaps, its tail curled up like a pretzel. The cold-faced Sentinel’s king cobra ties itself into a bow. There are direwolves, merfolk…
Countless Sentinels secretly pursue Dr. Mu.
But the little Guide is unmoved, rejecting all the little animals’ advances.
That night, a post rises to the top of the White Tower’s trending page: #How hard do I have to work to become the Guide’s plaything? QAQ#
Mu Xia: Isn’t there a species barrier…? People really shouldn’t, at the very least.
She humbly describes her work as
A human quack fixing cats and dogs all day.
A little bonus scene:
A ridiculous rumor once spread around the White Tower:
You have to work really hard to become the Guide’s plaything.
Because she only pets the fluffiest and strongest.
*
The heroine saves people and pets fluffy companions; the Sentinels are the ones who get lovesick.
The heroine can’t tell people apart, and she can’t tell ordinary animals from spirit companions either.
This is my first time being a Guide, so please be patient with me.
