Zhou Ji'an, head of the Office for the Management of Supernatural Species, has only three hobbies:
First, collecting the office's empty bottles and wastepaper boxes to sell for cash;
Second, hunting for discounted goods at various supermarkets after work;
Third, bringing home little monsters of unknown origins to raise...
One day, he accidentally finds a little black snake that has only just gained sentience. It's weak and pitiful, so Zhou Ji'an takes it home and names it "Nineteen."
Worried that Nineteen isn't in good health, Zhou Ji'an decides to train it properly. Once it passes the monster socialization exam, he'll find it an easy job, like sweeping the floor or wiping tables.
Later...
Looking at the nearly two-meter-tall hunk with eight-pack abs, an enormous appetite, and a fixation on showing off his body in public, then looking at the balance in his bank account, Zhou Ji'an falls into deep thought.
Maybe he could have the kid wipe down something else?
Now that Nineteen can take human form, Zhou Ji'an has to get it some identification documents.
Zhou Ji'an: "Species?"
Little Black Snake: "Li Dragon."
Zhou Ji'an registers it as: Long-Lived Species, Dragon Clan.
Zhou Ji'an: "Real name?"
Little Black Snake: "Xuan Yuan Yuan."
Zhou Ji'an registers it as: Xue Yuanyuan.
Fifteen working days later, the ancient true dragon Xuan Yuan Yuan receives a human ID card bearing the name "Xue Yuanyuan."
The "Twenty" Zhou Ji'an brings home is a little Western demon dragon. It whimpers, loves to snuggle, and even gives the coins from its collection to Daddy Zhou. Xuan Yuan Yuan can't stand the little thing, and from time to time gives it a taste of the mysterious power of the ancient East.
When Twenty successfully takes human form as a blond, blue-eyed foreign hunk and clings to Zhou Ji'an, begging to sleep with him, Xuan Yuan Yuan finally loses patience and kicks it out of the house...
Also driven out are the Cthulhu, werewolves, and vampires in the house who've been eyeing Zhou Ji'an for ages.
With his fatherly instincts in overdrive, Zhou Ji'an scolds the most troublesome kid in the house: "What are you trying to do?"
Xuan Yuan Yuan: "I want all the foreigners to die!"
Zhou Ji'an: "..."
Zhou Ji'an: "It's peacetime. We don't talk like that."
Zhou Ji'an: "Ask for something else. I'll grant you anything."
Xuan Yuan Yuan: "Then I want you to stay with me forever."
Zhou Ji'an turns into a softhearted god once more, promising to look after him... them for as long as he lives.
Like a loving father.
Xuan Yuan Yuan talks as if to himself: "Be my wife. We'll carve our names into the Three Lives Stone together, and stay together until the seas run dry and the stones crumble, immortal and everlasting!"
The loving father is confused.
The loving father is horrified.
The loving father wants to disown his son.
The loving father gives in.
