The first time Huo Lian saw Song Jinyun, she thought he was handsome and aloof, dressed in a Taoist robe and stubbornly old-fashioned.
She went to tease him. The young Taoist's face remained cold, and his gaze was particularly dark as he looked at her.
Huo Lian found him amusing and deliberately moved closer. A chill flickered in Song Jinyun's bright eyes. "Stay away from me."
Unfortunately for him, Huo Lian loved doing the opposite of what people wanted. The more he told her not to come near, the closer she got.
She pinched his cheek, took his hand, and toppled into his arms, enjoying the sight of Song Jinyun pressing his lips together in restraint, the veins standing out on the hand gripping his sword.
No matter how much she teased him, even when she drove him to anger, all he did was coldly tell her to get lost.
Huo Lian's interest came and went just as quickly.
She approached him for no reason, then distanced herself for no reason.
Song Jinyun watched coldly as people came and went from the mountain villa to propose marriage to its eldest young lady, Huo Lian. He understood that, to her, he was just a passing amusement.
Just a game.

Huo Lian stared in confusion at the man she was discussing marriage with, cowering in a corner, then at Song Jinyun standing nearby with his sword raised.
Song Jinyun gazed at her, his voice clear and cool. "Shouldn't you take responsibility?"
Huo Lian tilted her head in bewilderment. What had she done?
Song Jinyun sheathed his sword and walked toward her, speaking each word distinctly. "You've seen my body, and I've kissed your feet."
He pointed at the man in the corner. "And now you're discussing marriage with someone else?"
In the end, he received a box of silver and a message from Huo Lian: "From now on, we're even. Everything in the past is forgotten."
Song Jinyun's lashes trembled, and his fingers turned white around the hilt of his sword.
Later, Huo Lian reclined on the bed, covered only by a thin veil, without even the strength to lift her lashes.
Song Jinyun knelt before her and gathered his loose black hair back up with one hand.
"It's only midnight." He leaned over her. "Lian'er, a few more times, all right?"
Huo Lian: What kind of trouble had she gotten herself into? No one told her Taoists were this persistent.
