[White Ou, the compassionate young hospital director, x Hai Yu, her brilliant, bickering childhood friend and cardiothoracic surgeon]
A heavy snowfall blanketed Beijiang.
Perhaps because of that, the night shift was peaceful.
Half-asleep, Bai Ou heard the wind and snow howling outside the duty room window.
And she fell into a long dream.
At 7:30, she woke from the dream.
Tears had dampened her cheeks, but she couldn't remember anything...
She started her morning handover as usual, but the moment she saw her colleague, she felt an overwhelming urge to cry.
After handover, she walked through endless wind and snow and opened the warmly lit cafeteria, where she ran into her childhood friend, Hai Yu, the cardiothoracic surgeon she'd grown up bickering with.
But today, the chatterbox said nothing. He simply sat down in front of her and watched her.
"It's snowing so hard," Bai Ou said.
"Yeah. It feels like it was snowing in the dream, too," Hai Yu replied.
What they never expected was that the snowfall would never stop.
The snow kept falling and falling, until the whole Earth entered an ice age.
Beijiang, Spring City, plunged into a deadly freeze.
As far as the eye could see, everything lay in ruins... Countless people froze or starved to death.
On the streets, a skeletal old man collapsed beside a trash can;
In an apartment building, a newborn starved to death because there was no milk;
Outside a hospital, a high school student who couldn't get treatment died on the road...
Countless hospitals closed one after another because they ran out of funding, their buildings were destroyed, or they had too few medical staff...
In the extreme cold, everyone could only look after themselves. No, they couldn't even look after themselves.
But Bai Ou decided to open a hospital in this frozen apocalypse.
To her surprise, the first person to support her was Hai Yu, who had always loved arguing with her.
More surprising still, countless people rallied behind her.
A middle school classmate she hadn't seen in years, a colleague she'd met just once, strangers she'd crossed paths with...
And so Warm Sun Hospital officially opened.
But difficulties lay ahead.
A hospital building full of drafts, purified water supplies that couldn't keep up, medical supplies that couldn't be replenished in time...
And strange creatures born from the apocalypse.
To protect her hospital, Bai Ou decided to go out and find a way.
The blizzards had torn the world apart, giving rise to countless hidden realms...
She decided to venture into them to seek supplies, medicine, and food.
[Desolate Sands] The vast, boundless desert shares the name "Desolate Sands." It is the cradle of sandstorms. They say that at its very heart, you can find an endless supply of pure water.
[White River] White River is a city of water, with a long coastline and numerous ports. Here, one can buy urgently needed medicine and medical supplies.
[Hephaestus] Mount Hephaestus is unpredictable. The natives use ancient instruments to monitor its every movement, and those instruments are exactly what the hospital needs.
Bai Ou traveled from one world to another, searching for supplies and for hope.
But danger followed close behind.
She nearly became a meal for the monsters of Desolate Sands, nearly became an offering to the natives of White River, and nearly got swallowed by Mount Hephaestus...
But she would not give up. She would keep going, searching for ways to support the hospital.
Everywhere she went, she saw suffering as far as the eye could see.
A boy bitten by rats, his entire right hand swollen and ulcerated;
A young woman with cholera, vomiting and suffering from diarrhea;
An old man with chronic anemia, pale all over...
Bai Ou couldn't stand by and do nothing.
So she decided to put Warm Sun Hospital on the move.
With a medical kit on her back, she crossed endless glaciers and wilderness, helping people wherever she went.
Where she was, there was warmth and sunshine.
But her strength, and the strength of Warm Sun Hospital, was limited. Many, many people died.
A dehydrated, emaciated old man closed his eyes beside a dried-up river;
A baby with a swollen belly stopped crying in the frigid polar night;
A pregnant mother struggled and died in a barren hollow...
She had done so much and wanted to do so much more, but in the end, she couldn't achieve anything.
How long could Warm Sun Hospital survive?
Would this absurd frozen apocalypse ever come to an end...
