A young man in green robes, carrying a single sword. One glance is all it takes for Sang Tangxi to be sure he’s the person she’s looking for.
Sang Tangxi is overjoyed. Xu Chenqing is as gentle and refined as the rumors say, and after just a few words from her, he agrees to let her follow him.
What she doesn’t know is that the moment she stands before Xu Chenqing, the Qingyun Sect sends him a secret order: kill the woman from the Hehuan Sect. But the young woman’s smile is so radiant, and when he remembers her asking at their first meeting, “Does severing your feelings and desires hurt?”, Xu Chenqing simply can’t bring himself to do it.
Until one day at the foot of Tianshan, Sang Tangxi gives him an embroidered sachet. Xu Chenqing refuses it.
“Sang Tangxi, I cultivate the Heartless Way.”
Xu Chenqing thinks those words will be enough to extinguish all her hopes, but Sang Tangxi doesn’t react at all. Instead, she says earnestly, “I’m not asking you to abandon your cultivation for me. Later, when Xu Chenqing’s unstable Dao heart leads his sect to hunt him down, Sang Tangxi storms the Qingyun Sect with her sword in hand. She points at the elders and shouts so loudly her voice shakes the heavens.
“Xu Chenqing is my tribulation, and his Dao heart became unstable because of me. That makes him mine. Anyone who tries to kill him will die by my hand!”
Xu Chenqing has only two possible fates: ascension or death.
He thought that abandoning his cultivation would reduce him to ashes. He never expected to ascend instead.
