The Constable's Wife's Rise to the Top

Song Mo Qiu, a criminal investigation captain, transmigrates to ancient times.

When she was seven, three of Aunt Liu next door's chickens died.

She spotted suspicious white powder on the ground and was about to say something when her father dragged her away.

When she was ten, Old Wang at the end of the alley fell from his roof.

She immediately noticed something amiss, but her mother led her away.

At nineteen, she saw a man in a black uniform crouched at a crime scene, carefully examining the victim's wounds. Someone nearby called out, "Wei Zhi, stop looking. The county lieutenant says it was an accident, so it was an accident. Why are you, a constable, making such a fuss?"

Wei Zhi didn't even look up. "The wound doesn't match."

At last, she'd found someone like herself. Song Mo Qiu took an interest.

Then she learned the man was penniless and still unmarried.

Song Mo Qiu decided to marry him, on one condition: "You investigate cases, and I come along."

Wei Zhi nodded emphatically. "Deal!"

From then on, a figure in blue appeared at Wei Zhi's side.

The only son of a wealthy family dies suddenly on his wedding night.

Song Mo Qiu surveys the scene: The wedding candles are poisoned.

An unidentified man's corpse lies in an earth god shrine, seemingly starved to death.

Song Mo Qiu spots a pinprick on the back of the victim's neck: This was murder.

Wei Zhi goes from shocked, to accustomed to it, to full of admiration.

Meanwhile, Song Mo Qiu rises from a constable's wife to the acting judicial officer known as "Clerk Song."

One day, an official letter arrives at their residence: Song Mo Qiu is appointed an investigating officer of the Dali Temple and is to take up her post in the capital immediately.

The Commander-in-Chief, Wei Zhi, looks at the letter, then at his wife, a little hurt. "They... didn't invite me."

Song Mo Qiu slips the letter into her sleeve and smiles. "From now on, I'll investigate cases, and you'll come along."
