The Honest, Sturdy Bug Mother Is Expecting

Yas was a worker drone at the very bottom of the social order: timid and honest, slow-witted and taciturn. Every day, he did the dirtiest, hardest work, and aside from a reasonably healthy body, he had nothing.

He should have lived out his days in peace like so many other short-lived members of his kind, then died at fifty. That was how things were, until the day of the routine examination every insect citizen underwent upon reaching adulthood.

His compatibility with a royal insect was one hundred percent.

When a fleet from the home planet descended on the garbage planet, Yas learned that his adoptive father was the shameless human thief those important people spoke of.

He had stolen the "Mother," who had lain dormant for hundreds of years without hatching.

The insect before them was tall and strong. He had neither the lovely appearance of a honey insect nor the noble bloodline of a royal insect. Repeated genetic tests showed he was nothing more than a lowly, common worker drone. So why?

Why couldn't they take their eyes off him?

The royal insects questioned themselves. They scorned the "cheap" honey scent on him, yet couldn't help wanting to move closer.

It wasn't until a heat-induced fever triggered an info-pheromone storm in the human capital that all the royal insects, eyes reddened, realized:

The Insect Mother had been right there among them all along.

And Yas's belly had already begun to swell.

"Just because Mom's compatibility with you is 100%, that means the baby must be yours? Not necessarily! Mom's compatibility with me is 100%, too!"
