A puppy-like girl offstage, a stage-dominating queen onstage: an all-around idol.
A cold-faced movie star with old-school ways who keeps his phone offline: a naturally gifted actor.
"Korean girl group CE1 officially disbands. Member Yu Qingci returns to China. Video of her arrival at Shanghai airport."
At dawn, a video of fans greeting her at the airport sets the trending charts ablaze. In the clip, Yu Qingci wears a white dress, looking cool and relaxed. Noticing someone filming, she glances toward the camera, then strides into the VIP passage.
Within just five minutes of its release, the video has been reposted tens of thousands of times. Netizens are saying, "Everyone, move aside. Our moonlight is back."
But plenty of haters have their own take: "An idol has no stage to come back to. Go home and do nothing."
"She could still get bit parts in a few idol dramas overseas, but she won't even be able to break into the entertainment industry back here."
Two months later, Yu Qingci revives a domestic audition show that had been dormant for four years, serving as its creator.
If there is no stage, she'll make one herself.
Two years later, Yu Qingci wins Best Actress at the Asian Film Awards.
Sorry, acting is Yu Qingci's real forte.
Then another hater shows up to stir things up: "Didn't Yu Qingci only get famous by shipping herself with people?"
Fans and haters alike pile into the comments. The top comment comes from Weibo user "Did My First-Love CP Get Back Together Today?": "I beg my girl to play up a CP. I haven't had any content to eat in seven hundred years."
The child-star duo, childhood friends who once worked together, reunite on a variety show seven years later. The whole internet is eager to see where things go, but Yu Qingci merely nods respectfully and calls Feng Zelan "Teacher Feng." A variety show about adorable kids somehow turns into "Goodbye, Friends," and netizens lament the bond they've lost.
On the show, Yu Qingci sticks to the rules and is so deferential to Feng Zelan that she might as well be bowing and scraping. Netizens hail her as the actor with the best idol professionalism.
Feng Zelan is just as old-school, maintaining his usual aloofness.
Only in a corner beyond the cameras' view does Feng Zelan pin Yu Qingci against the wall. Staring at her with a cold expression, he asks, "What, you don't even recognize your senior anymore?"
