It was a perfectly ordinary day. Chu Shiyou, starving with a rumbling stomach, was waiting in line for his meal. Then, in the blink of an eye, everything around him changed. The concrete-and-steel interior was replaced by a shabby, strange little mountain village.

Clutching his aching stomach, he huddled at the back and learned from the people around him that this was a perilous instance world where one careless mistake could get you killed.

Chu Shiyou wasn't afraid of dying. He just wanted something to eat.

That's when a glowing orb claiming to be a System appeared. Tempting him with delicious food, it coaxed Chu Shiyou into drawing a card.

Chu Shiyou had bad luck. The card he drew had no attack power at all. It could only make a pair of caramel-colored puppy ears and a tail grow on him.

Chu Shiyou loved the card, but everyone around him started looking at him strangely and keeping their distance.

The System kept its promise right on time. After Chu Shiyou finished a little bun, he was given a note.

It told him to play the role he'd been assigned for the next three months: a child from a farming family at the edge of the village.

Once the three months were up, the mission would automatically count as a success, and the System would get them out of there.

Chu Shiyou immediately latched onto one key detail, his gaze fixed on the words "farming family."

A family? He had a family now?

This instance was great! It even came with a family!

The little puppy happily followed the System to his new home. Everyone was so welcoming! They made him dinner, and he even had a room of his own.

Chu Shiyou's eyes sparkled. The big, fluffy tail that had just grown behind him wagged nonstop. He felt like the happiest puppy in the world.

The village was actually beautiful, nothing like the terrifying, horrifying place the players had described, where you had to stay on edge every moment.

With the System guiding him, the little puppy spent every day wagging his fluffy tail and playing until he was covered in flowers.

Everyone in his family treated him very well, even though Mom liked sharpening knives in the middle of the night, Dad spent every day swinging from his neck at home, and his older brother wore red every night, with his long hair hanging down as he tried to climb into the puppy's bed.

The puppy respected their little quirks. Every night, he'd wander into his parents' room and watch them go to bed obediently before returning to his own room to sleep with his brother.

As time passed, the villagers grew increasingly fond of the puppy. At first they were cold toward him, but now they were so friendly that they'd even take him home to ruffle his fur.

One afternoon, the System suddenly turned into a person. The puppy saw the whole thing and was so startled that the biscuit in his mouth fell to the floor.

Fortunately, the puppy was easygoing. After circling the person and sniffing him, he accepted what had happened.

The puppy loved cuddling with everyone. Seeing the System like this, he trotted over without a second thought, wagging his tail as he nuzzled him. But he hadn't expected the System to take advantage of the opportunity. He started grabbing the puppy every day to play strange games, and even treated him like a puppy biscuit, biting him.

He also wanted to keep the puppy in his arms every chance he got, and constantly ruffled his cheeks, which had finally filled out a little after the villagers had taken such good care of him.

Day after day went by, and Chu Shiyou had no idea how long he'd been there. As screams rang out from outside, he was in the System's arms, being fed strawberries.

The little puppy raised his fluffy ears, curious, but before he could even look toward the sound, the System carried him back inside.

Oh, well.

The puppy tilted his head.

He figured it probably wasn't anything important.

[Gong's Perspective, Episodic Stories]

Episode One [A World Where Humans and Demons Coexist]: A money-loving, blue bay shepherd demi-human gong who dreams of a comfortable life, seeming optimistic on the outside but actually sensitive and insecure (Meng Yi) × a dependable older CEO shou (Gu Xunyan)

Meng Yi had spent eighteen years living a hard life. On the day he came of age, someone suddenly showed up and told him he'd been switched at birth and was actually the real young master of a wealthy family.

He thought his good days were finally about to begin, but it turned out the family had brought him back to replace the fake young master in an arranged marriage.

Meng Yi struggled, argued, and made a scene, but nothing worked.

He understood. This place was no different from his other "family." He'd come to terms with it. As long as he got paid, he'd do anything.

He'd assumed the Gu family would be much like his own, but after experiencing life there, he realized it was completely different.

So the servants wouldn't give him dirty looks. He could live in a big room. He could say when he was sick. He could eat the dishes he liked. And no one would scold him for being so shabby when he habitually hid food because he'd been afraid of going hungry.

...So this was what it felt like to be treated well.

Held in Gu Xunyan's arms, Meng Yi's eyes sparkled. His big, fluffy tail wagged furiously.

Episode Two [Virtual Pet App]: A big, long-haired, heterochromatic Maine Coon demi-human gong who looks fierce but is actually extremely clingy (Yu Jin) × a rich young master shou who is wealthy but stingy at first, then can think of nothing but his own cat (Lin Hemeng)

After an accident, Yu Jin was trapped inside an app and turned back into his original form: a snow-white Maine Coon with heterochromatic eyes and not a single spot of fur of another color.

The System told him that he needed the Chosen One in this world to spend a certain amount of money on him before he could leave the app.

He'd thought this would be a difficult mission, but the cat never expected the human to somehow fall for him on his own. The cat just had to sit there while the human spent money on him like crazy.

The little cat evolved straight into a little cat king. He could even order the human around with his paws, and the human was happy to pamper his own cat, working tirelessly at his every command.

The little cat had never lived so comfortably. Food and drink were brought right to his mouth, and his biggest challenge every day was figuring out how to keep the human from rubbing his belly and dressing him in strange clothes.

After giving his caretaker a good scratching as usual, based purely on instinct, the little cat king licked his paws and lazily tucked himself into his cat bed, reluctantly allowing him to touch the tip of his tail.

(The System is the chubby little snake gong from Episode Five. There is gong-gong cuddling.)

Episode Three [Apocalypse, Doted-on Gong]: A big, fox demi-human gong who seems cheerful and unserious but is actually desperately starved for affection, with a body that's been through the wringer (Ye Yunyi) × a protective wolf cub shou who's powerful (Jiang Shao)

When Jiang Shao was leading his team in retreat, they came across a blood-soaked man who was barely breathing. He looked vaguely familiar, so Jiang Shao went over and turned him over. Well, look at that. It was someone he knew.

The last time he'd seen Ye Yunyi was two weeks ago. Back then, the man had also been covered in injuries and charging into battle, while his teammates hung back, acting as if none of it had anything to do with them. Jiang Shao had found it hard to stomach.

He couldn't help saying a few things, trying to persuade Ye Yunyi to leave that useless team. But the fox hadn't listened at all. His narrow fox eyes tilted up as he rambled on with a smile, evading Jiang Shao's invitation to switch teams.

Jiang Shao brought the fox, who was down to his last breath, back with him, scowling. He'd planned to mock him once he woke up, but when he met Ye Yunyi's empty, lifeless gaze, the words he'd meant to say caught in his throat. He couldn't get them out.

It was the first time he'd seen the smiling fox make that expression.

Episode Four [Doted-on Puppy Gong]: A sunny, cheerful, pure-hearted and utterly unguarded honey-colored, big-breasted, mane-backed wolf fitness blogger gong with well-defined but not overly pronounced muscles (Su Yanyu) × a top donor shou

All of Su Yanyu's friends were streamers, and the puppy was terribly curious. After pondering it for a long time, he decided to become a fitness blogger.

With help from a friend who was a beauty blogger, he edited a video that he thought was really good.

The puppy thought posting it would bring in a bunch of fellow fitness enthusiasts to talk with him. But once it was online, no fellow enthusiasts showed up. Instead, a whole other crowd of netizens came rushing in, babbling about "big-breasted man mommy" and "daddy."

Episode Five: A chubby pink snake System gong (in human form, a handsome, cool-faced guy with lean muscles, a big chest, and a tendency to cry uncontrollably) × a loud, chuunibyou artist shou

The moment the System gained its freedom, it rushed to the little world to find the cat Host who had stayed behind.

The cat Host spent every day lying flat and loafing around, pampered by his caretaker and living a carefree life. The System envied him. After thinking it over all night, it decided to find itself a caretaker, too.

It wasn't hard. The System soon picked out the man living next door to its Host and successfully got taken in while disguised as a little pink snake.

The man was a freelancer with plenty of time and money, so the little snake was satisfied. Every night before bed, it carefully checked that it wouldn't accidentally turn into a human while asleep.

After all, most people could accept simply keeping a snake. But if the snake turned out to be a six-foot-one man, that was another matter.

The peaceful days didn't last long before an accident gave him away. The little snake had thought the human would kick him out of the house, but after waiting and waiting, he still wasn't thrown out. Instead, the human got even more enthusiastic, holding him and rubbing him all over.

The little snake was left in a complete mess by the human, tears of physical reaction welling in the corners of his eyes. He couldn't understand how things had suddenly turned out this way.
