Everyday Life in Lin'an, Southern Song Dynasty

Xue Zhi transmigrates into the body of a young woman from a poor family in a bustling neighborhood in Fuzhou, Southern Song China.

Her parents died young, and she and her sister make a living fishing. Her uncle sells her to the prefect's residence to become a concubine to the spoiled young master.

Xue Zhi escapes with her six-year-old sister.

With no money to her name, she helps prepare food aboard boats to scrape together enough to eat and save a little for the journey.

Eventually, after many twists and turns, she arrives in Lin'an.

Lin'an is prosperous. If you have a skill, you won't go hungry, but the rent is sky-high.

After renting a room, she has not a single coin left.

She looks at the wide variety of foods in the bustling markets: steamed snacks, meat and vegetarian pastries, Sichuan meals and tea, restaurants and taverns... She can't help thinking how wonderful it would be to have a shop of her own.

She takes her sister and a basket, hawking food around the neighborhood eateries. Little by little, she saves enough to make clothes and buy charcoal. She rents a shop under Fumin Bridge and opens a noodle shop.

As spring turns to summer, autumn to winter, the Xue family's food gradually gains a reputation in Lin'an, drawing customers from far and wide.
