The Double-Layered Cage

Six years ago, Zhou Cong'an, a master planner, died under mysterious circumstances, leaving behind three mysterious relics and an unsolvable, double-layered prison cage that trapped every faction in a game of strategy.

Six years later, his apprentice Qin Yi is caught in the vortex of the game. To break the cage and uncover the truth behind the betrayal and death all those years ago, she navigates the factions of prisoners. Everyone scrambles for the relics, holding one another in check and fighting to the death. They all think they're the players who will turn the game around, unaware that every one of them is a pawn being manipulated.

A decade-old secret about undercover agents, inhumane experiments on living subjects, forcibly split good and evil personalities, and a god-slaying authorization hidden beneath layer upon layer of secrets all come to light. When the three relics merge and the incomplete player awakens, everyone finally learns that this game never had a way for everyone to win.

The old gods fall, and new ambitions sprout from the ashes. A physical cage can be broken, but an intangible fate is harder to escape.

At the endgame, no one wins. All are prisoners.

Message: This novel uses the game of strategy and the prison cage as central metaphors, exploring struggles of human nature and the shackles of fate through questions of freedom, good and evil, redemption, and power. It depicts a tragic contest with no winners. The story challenges rigid black-and-white values. Zhou Cong'an is trapped between light and darkness, his personality torn apart by trauma. He resists the dark through extreme means, but ultimately becomes a prisoner of his own obsession. Through him, the author reveals that good and evil coexist in human nature, and there are no absolutely pure good people or villains. Extreme justice and brutality come from the same root. The novel also redefines what it means to be imprisoned: cages of flesh and memory are only appearances. What truly traps everyone is desire, obsession, vulnerability, and the instinct to run away. Simply hoping to be saved by the powerful and waiting for someone else to give you freedom is itself a form of self-imprisonment. There is no perfect solution within the game. Using power to reshuffle the board and impose a new order will only give rise to another round of darkness. The story's final conclusion is this: there are no gods in this world, fate has no solution, and freedom is scarce. All are prisoners. For ordinary people, the only way to save themselves is to face the flaws in human nature and refuse to follow blindly or depend on others.
