They were all still little, not even enough to make a decent snack.
He Qi decided to keep the three of them alive for now and fatten them up before eating them.
Food was expensive, and the cost of raising her emergency rations soon left her struggling to make ends meet.
Luckily, they grew at an astonishing rate. In just half a month, they were already nearly adult-sized.
Just as she was about to sharpen her knife, a giant beast smashed the little shack she called home with one blow.
Just as He Qi thought she was finally about to be eliminated...
The pelican opened its even bigger beak, swallowed the beast's head, and gulped it down with a crunch!
The capybara suddenly grew several times larger, charged through the beast's spine, and smashed through everything in its path!
Even the usually quiet black sludge suddenly lit up, spreading over the mountain of corpses and devouring everything!
Then it burped contentedly and snuggled back into her arms.

Before she could make sense of it, the people around her were already shouting:
"That weakling dares to raise strange beasts in the arena!"
"What weakling? She's a top expert! Hurry up and get on her good side!"
"She actually keeps strange beasts as pets. Who on earth is she?"
"Strange beasts can be tamed? Expert, take me with you!"
He Qi blinked slowly as she looked at the three quiet little creatures in her arms.
