After escaping from prison, Xie Ran opened a small shop on a remote, impoverished planet, scraping by as best she could.
She thought she could stay out of trouble and live in peace, but the things she sold were too unusual, and the Federation came after her again.
With no other choice, she had to find herself a place to take shelter.
The cat-shaped gadget at her side told her that Calderis Academy had a good reputation and wasn't under Federation control, making it a pretty good place to go.

Beneath the peaceful facade, no one knew that a catastrophe poised to engulf the Federation was about to strike.
Hideously deformed creatures from another realm invaded the Federation: an elephant god capable of flattening a mountain with one stomp, a serpent father with hundred-foot-long fangs, humanoid octopuses with black bony wings...
Explosives and artillery were no more than an itch to them. To these monsters, humans were like ants.
To survive, humanity had no choice but to submit. Xie Ran alone stayed calm, unhurriedly activating her powers and taking down one little darling after another.
She cut through those otherworldly creatures as easily as slicing through melons and vegetables.
After the crisis passed, a student asked, "Where did you get your powers?"
Xie Ran: "The Cat Brand gave them to me."
Student: "What's the Cat Brand?"
Xie Ran: "Ever played a game? It's my cheat."

Xie Ran had a Cat Brand that could predict the future. After she saved its life, it told her a "great catastrophe" was coming and granted her the powers to fight the monsters.
Having a cheat that could see the future was great, but the Cat Brand had an unknown origin and strange abilities, so she never let her guard down around it.
But with the Federation in dire straits, she could only work with it for the time being.
Xie Ran had long decided that once they drove out all the otherworldly creatures, she and the Cat Brand would go their separate ways.
She thought everything would go according to plan, until one day, a handsome young man with long golden hair appeared beside her. His long lashes shaded the darkness in his eyes as he took her hand and smiled gently:
"You saved my life, so I'll repay you with mine. I'm here to return the favor. Abandon me again and I'll die right in front of you :)"

Later, Xie Ran led her students in fighting monsters and leveling up. Only after they had driven all the otherworldly creatures out did she suddenly remember one question:
They'd never once considered who the big boss behind the otherworldly creatures was.
Suspicious eyes turned toward the handsome young man with strange powers once more. He lowered his eyes and knelt by her leg, looking utterly pitiful:
"They all suspect me. Are you going to be just like them and send me to the executioner's platform?"
Xie Ran's heart warmed. She pulled him behind her and faced the room full of suspicion:
"He's under my protection. Who dares bully him?"
