The Loser Decides to Follow the Script
[Hey everyone, work has been way too stressful, so I've decided to build up a backlog. This is the story I'm saving up chapters for. I'll update the blurb with progress.
Current progress: 1,000 words]
After assassinating the Main God, Executor Pei Wanxu had his soul shattered and was sent to various little worlds to play the losing male supporting character.
He could be a rotten green apple, a painting ruined by a drop of ink, or a bright rose fallen into the mud.
But he could never be a pure, cherished moon, or a precious treasure cradled in someone's palm.
One day, something calling itself a System appeared and told Pei Wanxu his fate.
It turned out that even when you loved someone with all your heart, the best ending you could get was a story where a rotten relationship was forcibly balanced out.
"Wanxu, should we change your fate?"
"No. A rotten relationship is still a relationship, and a story that balances things out still means they love me. I'm going to the people who love me."
World One: Esports, The Superstar
This is an esports novel where the protagonist, a versatile substitute player, joins a team, falls for the protagonist gong, a jungler, and ultimately gets a happy ending as part of a powerful couple.
Pei Wanxu is an aloof, proud male supporting character and the protagonist gong's assistant. He clings to the jungler, who loathes him.
He also uses every underhanded trick he can think of to frame the protagonist shou.
His ending is fitting punishment for his misdeeds. Riding the wave of infamy, he becomes a B-list celebrity and the hidden-in-the-shadows "wife" of a rich heir, watching bitterly as the protagonists stand side by side to claim their victory.
The day he learned the plot, Pei Wanxu fell silent.
Then he vanished completely from the lives of the protagonist gong and shou.
Feelings they had never cared about began to take root, until their overflowing love tore their hearts apart. The protagonist gong and shou, who should have been lovers but were now rivals, could only watch as Superstar Pei slept peacefully in the arms of some rich heir...
They had failed to cherish him when they had him, and ignored him when they liked him. They always seemed to be a little too late...
World Two: Infinite-Flow Horror, The Bride
As far back as he could remember, Pei Wanxu had been a boss in an infinite-flow horror game.
The dungeon mechanics assigned him a "husband" to be his partner: the protagonist gong.
The protagonist gong grew tired of life in the dungeons, abandoned Pei Wanxu, and joined the players. There, he fell into a love-hate relationship with the strongest newcomer, the protagonist shou...
The second "husband" he was assigned also wanted freedom. After stealing a player's body, he left behind a strange, empty shell.
In the script, Pei Wanxu was never satisfied and wanted nothing but to take back the protagonist gong. In the end, he was nailed inside the dungeon's coffin. The player whose body had been taken by his second husband was the only one who spoke with him, their soul drifting nearby. The player would occasionally tease him, saying that he was technically the player's bride too...
This time, the System arrived early, before the protagonist gong had joined the players.
But things still ended up the same way: the second husband ran off too.
The System sympathized. "Wanxu..."
But when the protagonist gong and shou, along with the second husband, entered the dungeon, they saw a beautiful bride doing everything he could to anchor a player's soul in a strange, empty shell...
That had once been their bride, and the body he had rejected...
World Three: Ancient Setting, The Shadow Guard
Pei Wanxu and the protagonist shou were shadow guards, working in the dark. They had grown up together and shared life and death, almost like childhood sweethearts.
Though their faces were always covered and they had not seen each other in who knew how long, Pei Wanxu still looked forward to every mission they worked on together.
But the protagonist shou had always hated their status and thought people like them, forced to live in the shadows, were utterly disgusting.
During a mission, the protagonist shou was injured and lost all his martial arts skills. His master could only send him to the protagonist gong to go undercover and carry out an assassination.
The process was extremely explicit, and then the protagonist gong and shou got their happy ending.
What about Pei Wanxu?
His mission failed too. Apart from making his master realize that he liked the protagonist shou and occasionally getting on the protagonist gong's nerves, his ending was to be injured on another mission, lose all his martial arts skills, and be sent to the master's disabled younger brother. Trapped in the inner household, he was repeatedly humiliated by outsiders...
The System said, "Forget it, Wanxu. Run."
Pei Wanxu didn't run. He gently rested his head against the disabled man's ailing leg. "Husband..."
The disabled man gazed at him gravely and gently stroked the beautiful man's hair. He couldn't imagine how anyone could bring themselves to reject such a devoted, home-loving spouse.
World Four: Cultivation, The Senior Brother
Pei Wanxu was once the only disciple of an aloof sword venerable. But ever since the junior apprentice-brother arrived, all of his master's affection had shifted to the newcomer.
The heartless path forbade romantic love. Pei Wanxu suppressed his feelings for years. His many emotions and thoughts even caused the path to turn on him: despite his cultivation, he was frail and lacked talent.
Later, the master of the heartless path and his junior apprentice-brother both reached enlightenment, living together as a devoted couple without suffering any backlash.
Pei Wanxu, however, could only leave the immortal sect and spend his life as an ordinary man with a mortal doctor, growing old and dying of illness in obscurity.
The System said, "Wanxu, maybe being mortal isn't so bad. He has only a limited time to live, and he spends it loving you."
Pei Wanxu was silent for a long time. "You're right."
Everyone else was scrambling to join the immortal sect, while the sword venerable and his disciple were sick of seeing people come and go.
Until, during a trip to the mortal realm, they found their beloved disciple and senior apprentice-brother resting his head on the shoulder of a mortal.
Their hands were clasped tightly together as they spoke of the terrifying prospect of having only a few short decades...
How could a few decades possibly be enough?
This was clearly the person they wanted by their side for thousands of years, for tens of thousands of years, for all eternity...
World Five: Sentinels and Guides, The Heir
World Six: Interstellar, The Mermaid
World Seven: Western Fantasy, The Fallen God
The worlds may be added or removed depending on what interests me. The gong and shou will follow the usual conventions.
The main theme is: "The beauty has lost hope and accepted his fate, while the others chase after him, and his destined lover falls hard."
