During the rainy season in Ancheng, the lights suddenly go out in the classroom during evening study hall.

Amid the cheering, Di Jiu feels someone pinch her cheek twice.

A moment later, the lights come back on, and an anonymous love letter is on her desk.

It opens by calling her "baby" and is signed "Di Jiu's dog."

The letter is four full pages long, with tender word choices, painfully cheesy sentences, and all sorts of unabashed, direct declarations of love.

Di Jiu reads it discreetly, takes a moment to recover, then turns around to search for the likely culprit:

Her deskmate is secretly stuffing spicy strips into his mouth. Ruled out. The boy who confessed to her not long ago is trying to hide the novel he's reading. Ruled out. The class representative is fooling around with the student beside them. Ruled out. The class monitor pulls out a stick, ready to rap on desks and restore order. Ruled out again.

And then there's her crush, Zong Yuanqing

Zong Yuanqing is working on a problem, his back perfectly straight, like an utterly motionless iceberg. His uniform collar sits neatly and symmetrically on either side of his neck, spotless.

His tightly pressed lips relax as he replies to something his deskmate says.

Ruled out, ruled out, ruled out.

Di Jiu unhappily turns her head away.

Damn it.

Zong Yuanqing can clearly talk. So why won't he talk to her?
