In his previous life, Fuji Sakuyo was the youngest player on the French men's national volleyball team. After being cut from the roster, he gave up volleyball, went into medicine, and worked as a doctor for many years.
At twenty-eight, he performed ACL reconstruction surgery on a setter from the Argentinian national team, gaining a chatty little patient in the process. He spent nearly nine months helping him through rehabilitation before sending him back to the court.
After an incident involving a patient's family, his eye was slashed and he lost his sight for good. After losing volleyball, he had now lost the right to hold a scalpel, too.
In the darkness, he passed his days listening to Oikawa's matches. Toru Oikawa often came to visit, and they would occasionally talk about their pasts.
Oikawa Toru would talk about his youth, his unwillingness to give up, his passion, and the ten years he spent away from home.
Fuji Sakuyo would talk about how he used to play volleyball, how he once spent a night in a classroom with a cadaver, and how... "Ato, I used to be amazing at volleyball."
"Doctor, if you could do it all over again, come be my teammate."
Fuji Sakuyo fell in love with someone. He planned to confess on the day he regained his sight after his corneal transplant.
But he was always unlucky. In the very last second before he died, all he could think was, Thank goodness I never confessed to Toru Oikawa.
But when he woke up again, he found himself back at sixteen, the same age as Toru Oikawa.
Reading guide
1. The protagonist is very skilled. If you think that's over the top, it's because I gave him a cheat.
2. The protagonist is the pursuing partner, and his love interest is Toru.
3. The timeline starts in Aoba Johsai's first year of high school. Both protagonists will pursue professional careers. I'll try not to change the original plot, but we'll see how things develop.
4. The plot focuses on matches, and Oikawa will win, as will Aoba Johsai. (It's Oikawa-centered and focused on the whole universe, and the protagonist is also a huge Oikawa fan, so you know how it is.)
5. I'll add more if I think of anything.
