Stand-In Alpha Quits

Diligent little screenwriter A × cool, aloof, icy queen of the screen O

Pei Ci awakened.

The night before her girlfriend, the industry's acclaimed screenwriter Shi Yu, tricked her into signing a contract that would make her a virtual indentured servant.

She discovered she was a minor character doomed to cannon fodder in an entertainment-industry novel.

She had the talent to write countless excellent scripts, but she was so lovesick that she gave them all to her girlfriend, fellow screenwriter Shi Yu. This made Shi Yu one of the most prominent screenwriters in the industry and even helped her reunite with her unattainable first love, an Alpha.

Only after Pei Ci had been drained of every last bit of value did she realize she was nothing but a tool Shi Yu had used, a stand-in who happened to look like Shi Yu's first love.

She fell out with Shi Yu and tried to expose the truth about them, but ran into obstacles at every turn.

She was silenced, suppressed, and threatened. Her former lover even exposed her deepest wounds in public, turning her into an internet laughingstock.

In the end, utterly despairing, she took her own life to make sure the public would finally learn what had happened to her.

But no one truly cared about her. She was just a minor character pitied for a moment, then quickly forgotten.

Why sign that contract at all, then!

Pei Ci immediately sent Shi Yu a breakup message.

Shi Yu scoffed and confidently declared, "Within a month, she'll come begging me to get back together, contract in hand."

But a month later, Shi Yu saw the script Pei Ci had originally intended for her adapted into a short film by a renowned director. It went viral, and Pei Ci signed a deal with the screen queen Shi Shuwan.

Shi Yu had spent years isolating Pei Ci from her industry connections and keeping a close watch on her. She couldn't figure out how Pei Ci had managed it. Drunk and raging in the middle of the night, she smashed her way into Pei Ci's home.

But the person who came out from behind the door was Shi Shuwan.

Shi Yu clicked her tongue. "...Auntie?"

Shi Shuwan calmly adjusted her sheer outer robe. "My wife is asleep. What do you want with her?"
