After I Accidentally Provoked My Brooding Junior Brother

To be honest, I didn't like that junior disciple who had just entered the immortal sect, had no family or status to speak of, and yet was fairly handsome. It was just that, at the time, I happened to need someone who could make me look kind and wonderful. Even though, in the eyes of my senior brothers and sisters, I was already the very definition of pure and innocent, who would turn down an even better reputation?

For that reason, I took the initiative to approach him, pretending I really liked him. At first, he was as wary of me as a hedgehog, but before long he accepted my advances, and a different kind of affection appeared in his eyes.

See? Everyone finds me so likable. But even if I pretended to like him, he could never be my future cultivation partner. I was simply lost in the pleasure of being a good person everyone liked.

One day, he went out to slay demons and met an untimely end. I put on a show of being heartbroken and overcome with grief, but once I returned to my room, I sneered that he was useless to have died so quickly.

My newly purchased spirit pet, a white snake, coiled around my wrist just then, resting its head in my palm. I gently stroked its head and said, "Maybe I should find someone else to like."

That was what I planned to do, but then strange things began happening one after another.

First, I started having frequent dreams in which my dead junior disciple held me and told me he loved me. Then every new disciple I approached ran into all kinds of bad luck. Even more unsettling, I felt as if I were being watched, a sensation that never left me and kept me from finding peace day or night.

I felt someone was targeting me, but I couldn't figure out who.

After all, I had always been so good to everyone. I'd never harmed anyone.

Just as I was consumed by anxiety, the person I thought had died returned. Not only was he alive, but his strength had improved immensely. He was stronger than ever.

In front of everyone, he walked over to me and took my hand, his eyes full of affection. I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking I could keep playing the role. But I hadn't expected the returning him to become even more forward, always clinging to me and trying to be intimate. It made me resentful.

Did he think I would marry him?

Before I could call him out, he asked me outright who I wanted as my cultivation partner.

"Who else are you trying to get close to?"

Me: "..."
