The Answer

Guqin Teacher | SWAT Sniper

At twenty-seven, Liang Zhao returned to Yunzhou.

He had lost some of his memory after being injured in the line of duty, but he kept dreaming of a girl's back.

Slender and tall, with her hair in a high ponytail. She wore the blue-and-white uniform of Yunzhou No. 1 High School and stood in a covered walkway, gazing into the distance.

The setting sun after the rain bathed her in golden light, but no matter how hard he tried, he could never see her face.

On his first day back in Yunzhou, he heard his cousin's guqin teacher reciting, "A noble gentleman is like a piece of jade: cut and polished, carved and ground."

"A fine gentleman like your cousin... must also enter the military and undergo repeated trials in that harsh place. Only then can he shed his superficial airs and reveal an even more admirable, gentle brilliance and character."

Liang Zhao laughed. He thought this girl was quite interesting.

Wen Rou was as gentle as her name suggested. She had a graceful appearance, a soft voice, and a quiet nature that made her almost invisible.

In high school, she had a crush on Liang Zhao, the campus heartthrob in the class next door, but she didn't even dare speak to him.

Then, at twenty-seven, she became the guqin teacher for Liang Zhao's cousin, and the two of them unexpectedly began spending more and more time together.

"Teacher Wen, why is your voice so soft?"

"Teacher Wen, why do you blush so easily?"

"Teacher Wen, why are you so gentle?"

"Teacher Wen, are you sure I'm a gentleman?"

Wen Rou answered him seriously: "You are."

Later, while she was on a blind date, he grabbed her and pulled her into the next room. Separated from the rest of the world by a folding screen,

Liang Zhao held her in his arms and kissed her until she could hardly breathe. He whispered in her ear, "Am I still a gentleman like this?"

Wen Rou: "..."

Liang Zhao said:

"You watch the scenery from the rooftop, while someone in the building watches you.

The bright moon adorns your window, and you adorn someone else's dream."

Wen Rou said:

"You were the bright moon of my seventeen-year-old self, and you are the warm sun of my twenty-seven-year-old self."

That secret crush no one knew about all those years

had quietly found its answer in the passage of time:

The answer is you, Wen Rou.

I will be forever lost in your gentle eyes, again and again, a thousand times over.
