Passing Off as a Bedchamber Maid

After dying, Ming Dai finds herself reborn as the personal maid of the Crown Prince's concubine.

When the concubine becomes pregnant, she pushes Ming Dai forward to compete for favor.

But the Crown Prince's residence is rife with danger. The Crown Princess is aggressive, the other concubines are all watching like tigers, and one wrong move could mean a miscarriage and death, all in one package.

Ming Dai: I can't handle this. I'd better run.

She uses all her travel money to bribe the guards, planning to escape the hunting grounds during the autumn hunt. But someone drugs her and sends her to Prince Jin's bed.

Fortunately, Prince Jin has lost his memory, and rumor has it that he detests women. He doesn't even have a personal maid in his residence.

With the Crown Prince's men chasing her from behind, Ming Dai clings to Prince Jin and weeps, determined not to be dragged back:

"Your Highness, I'm your secret mistress. You said you loved me deeply and would take me to your residence to live the good life. Surely you haven't forgotten all that?"

Ming Xue has been reborn.

She hates that in her previous life Ming Dai became the Crown Prince's favorite concubine, bearing three children in two years. After the Crown Prince ascended the throne, Ming Dai was even made a Noble Consort.

Ming Xue herself had been ordered to seduce Prince Jin, but he was short-lived and cold-hearted. When he died, her own fate was miserable.

So in this life, she plots carefully to switch their circumstances.

But Ming Xue never expected that while she was exhausting herself competing for favor, Ming Dai would be eating hotpot by the brazier in Prince Jin's residence;

while Ming Xue was scheming and framing others in the harem, Ming Dai would be wealthy and free, with a man who never came home;

while Ming Xue was doing everything she could to win the Crown Prince's affection, Ming Dai would even earn herself a promotion.

Ming Dai knows Prince Jin is just a cannon-fodder character in the original story, destined to die in the war a year later.

So all she has to do is fool everyone for one year. Once Prince Jin dies, no one will ever learn the truth, and she can pack her bags and run off to enjoy her freedom.

But a year later, the man who should have died in battle crawls back from the battlefield. He looks at the bundle in her hands and smiles:

My dear Princess, where are you off to?
