Saving the World Starts with Farming [Western Fantasy]

-

As a second-year student in the Natural Cultivation Department at the Academy of Magic, Vesper's project this year is to grow potatoes that can heal wounds.

She spends every day in the experimental fields, watering the potatoes with magic-infused water, chanting growth spells, and even chatting with them.

Who could have guessed that one rainy night, all the carrot-flavored potatoes she'd worked so hard to grow would be stolen?

All that remained in the field were two purple magic crystals, glowing faintly.

Vesper was furious. She picked up the crystals and was just about to cast a tracking spell when-

The world spun. She pitched headfirst into the ground.

When she woke up, Vesper was lying in an unfamiliar valley.

A voice in her mind, claiming to be the System, told her this was Shelter Valley, on the continent of Anzeril, which was suffering through an endless downpour. Soon, the entire continent would face a cataclysm.

The only way for Vesper to return to her own world was to save every living thing on this continent.

And so-

Vesper set herself a goal: go home. Find the potato thief and give him a couple of magical beatings.

But the next day, hungry and lying in a dilapidated wooden cabin, she silently crossed out "go home" and changed it to "get something to eat."

Getting something to eat wasn't hard.

The place where she was staying was an abandoned farm, with fertile land to spare. And Vesper was best at farming.

Before long, star wheat, sweet potatoes, glowing tomatoes, and other crops long extinct elsewhere were growing on the farm...

Vesper noticed that the valley's residents were gradually becoming friendlier.

Without exception, each of them told her the same thing:

"Hey, farmer, stay away from the cave behind the farm. There's a weirdo living in there."

Vesper had always imagined that the cave must be home to a hulking brute with a lot of body hair.

Until one day-

She was hurrying back with a diamond she'd just found in the mine when the rain suddenly began to fall.

Then she saw someone standing on the hillside.

Silver-white hair blowing in the wind, skin so pale it was nearly translucent, and eyes without a glimmer of light, as if he had been dead for a long time.

But he was so beautiful.

So beautiful that with a thump, Vesper heard her heart surrender.
