Divine Gift

Wan Li is no god.

The day she was summoned to this magical forest, Tang Ling, the catfolk chieftain, took one look at her and turned away.

The tribe needed a deity who could heal all things and communicate with nature, but all they got was a frail human girl.

Wan Li didn't know what to do.

But miracles came so quickly.

Every injury healed completely when she laid a hand on it.

Withered trees came back to life, and dried-up springs began to flow.

The magical forest, once dead and silent, bloomed with the vitality it had known countless millennia ago.

Wan Li was the darling of the magical forest.

The cats of the tribe gathered around her, calling her the "Divine Maiden."

The other tribes that followed her called all her wonders "divine blessings."

The catfolk chieftain, usually gentle, composed, and formidable in battle, would return to her original form late at night. She would pull Wan Li into her arms with her paws and coax her until she cried: "I summoned you. You belong only to me."

Tang Ling no longer worshipped the gods.

She devoted all her love to her Divine Maiden alone.

A catfolk chieftain and the Divine Maiden she loved.
