Blurb: Draft Version
Qiu Miyu thinks she has the worst luck. Everyone in her family has pleasant features, yet somehow she was born the odd one out, ugly as sin.
Other people's childhoods are full of laughter. Hers is filled with the ugly background noise of "ugly girl," "fat pig," "trash," "disgusting," and "pig face."
Once, she cried and asked her mother, "Am I really that ugly?"
Her mother cried too, holding her and saying, "Our little Yu is adorable. You're not ugly at all!"
Qiu Miyu wasn't entirely convinced. Soon afterward, her mother transferred her to a new school. Sure enough, hardly anyone there called her names.
But no one wanted to be her friend, either.
In her lonely school life, Qiu Miyu gradually came to realize she was an utterly ordinary girl... Though perhaps not ordinary, exactly, since she was still ugly.
At that age, other people's cruelty could cut even deeper. Being ignored would have been bad enough... But because of her appearance, she endured plenty of malice throughout her adolescence.
She gritted her teeth and made it to graduation so her family wouldn't worry. Then she researched schools online and applied to a girls' school far away.
Maybe she could start a new life there.
*
Qiu Miyu thinks she's lucky. Everyone at her new school is kind, and no one attacks her appearance. To be on the safe side, she even learned how to do makeup. She's not exactly beautiful, but at least she looks a lot more presentable.
The first friends she makes are her roommates, dazzling goddesses who are nothing like her.
Goddess No. 1: a sharp-tongued, two-faced heiress who has always been pampered, and the second roommate to befriend Qiu Miyu.
Goddess No. 2: a gentle, friendly model with a modest online following, and the first person to become Qiu Miyu's friend.
Goddess No. 3: a frosty scholarship student who spends all her time in the lab and library, and the last roommate to befriend Qiu Miyu.
Then there's Goddess No. 4, a lively, straightforward junior in the preparatory program who's fascinated by Qiu Miyu and keeps insisting they become friends.
They're the kind of people Qiu Miyu longs to be. Their looks, family backgrounds, and accomplishments are the girlish daydreams she keeps hidden away.
But Qiu Miyu knows she'll never be one of them.
Qiu Miyu has never understood why they accepted her, and she doesn't dare ask.
Until one stormy night, the power goes out and someone comes to her bedside.
Only one of her roommates could be sneaking up on her at a time like this. Qiu Miyu has learned to play pranks on friends, so she waits to give the other person a fright.
As thunder cracks, a kiss lands on Qiu Miyu's cheek.
By the time she opens her eyes, the other person is gone. Her roommates are gathered by the window, rain and wind sweeping into the room as they laugh and invite her over.
The rain feels cool. In the light spilling in from the hallway, Qiu Miyu studies the heiress, the model, and the scholarship student.
Every one of them is a suspect, yet every one of them seems completely innocent.
But one of them must have kissed her.
Who could it have been?
