[Coming next: a bittersweet new story. Add it to your collection!]

When Ruan Qinghu said he loved her, Yao Lingwei was looking down, her fingers touching the divorce papers tucked into her sleeve.

She thought, At least now he sounds like a considerate husband.

Too bad she didn't need that anymore.

Back then, she had waited in their bridal chamber in her phoenix crown and wedding robes, while he was fifty li away at a ferry crossing, pinned to the ground by servants who had chased after him.

Now, as he told her he loved her, the divorce papers were in her sleeve, and she had already obtained her parents-in-law's approval.

Yao Lingwei thought this was probably karma.

She just didn't know who it would fall on.

When the carriage sent by her brother-in-law arrived to take her away, Ruan Qinghu learned that she'd been carrying those divorce papers for three days.

He ran after her.

A man who'd been ill for a month stumbled as he ran, but the person inside the carriage never once leaned out to look.

He fell into the mud and watched the carriage disappear into the distance, sobbing uncontrollably.

He thought that was what he would have to pursue for the rest of his life.
