What's it like to transmigrate into a raunchy rural novel set in Northeast China, one you acted in yourself?
The original owner is vain and greedy. She strings along Lin Feng, the richest farmer in the village, while flirting with Jiang Yan, her brother-in-law, a student at a prestigious university. She cheats them both out of money and affection, and constantly makes life difficult for the heroine, the sweet and innocent Bai Lianhua. In the end, she dies horribly.
An Ning: Thanks for asking. I'm not following the original plot. To hell with those fade-to-black scenes, and to hell with passionate encounters in the cornfields!
She may have transmigrated, but before that, she'd spent over a decade acting. She knows the original plot by heart: she knows who'll come to a bad end and who'll strike it rich.
She treats all the village gossip like water off a duck's back.
So what if it's the late 1980s? So what if she's in a village in Northeast China? She has hands, feet, and a brain. She's not going to starve. Making money is what matters! Once she saves enough, she'll leave and make a fresh start. Those two lousy men and this stupid plot can all get lost!
But before she can make a move, Lin Feng comes to find her. He drops by every few days, bringing meat and grain, plowing her fields and building her a house, without making any attempt to avoid gossip.
The script says Lin Feng is the biggest livestock farmer in Lingshan Village, broad-backed, narrow-waisted, with long, powerful arms and legs. The kind of man who makes your knees go weak at first sight. An Ning had thought the description was exaggerated, but now that he's standing before her, she knows the screenwriter wasn't exaggerating at all.
Before An Ning can recover, the man corners her in the courtyard.
Lin Feng grips her waist from behind, his breath rough and scorching, like a beast that's held itself back for too long and finally let go of every restraint.
"Ningning." Lin Feng's voice is hoarse, almost pleading. "Let me kiss you. Just once. I'll give you anything you want."
His burning body heat seeps through their rough clothes, making her shiver all over. An Ning is stunned.
"Are you crazy?"
"Yeah, I'm crazy." Lin Feng stares at her with burning eyes. His sharply defined face is now set in a fierce, unwavering expression. "I've been crazy since the day you married into Lingshan Village."
And Jiang Yan makes her even more uneasy.
The day Jiang Yan comes back, the whole village thinks he's studied himself stupid.
A top student from a prestigious university in the provincial capital, he's given up a city job just to return to this poor mountain village.
At first, An Ning also thinks Jiang Yan is just like the one in the script: aloof and proud, and utterly disgusted by his promiscuous sister-in-law, the original owner.
But the Jiang Yan standing before her seems like a completely different person from the one in the script.
Late at night, An Ning can't sleep, so she goes out to the courtyard for some air. The moment she opens the door, she walks right into a warm embrace.
Jiang Yan's eyes are clear and cool. He wraps an arm around her waist, holding her with a strength that won't let her break free.
"Sister-in-law, where are you going so late at night?"
