“I observed the stars last night and calculated that a great calamity is coming. I must go face it. Watch over the temple until I return.”
Mu Qing, the last disciple of Qingling Temple, looked at the ruins before her, rummaged through her pockets, and pulled out the ten yuan she had left to buy buns. With a long sigh, she gripped her sword and descended the mountain.
Once she reached the foot of the mountain, Mu Qing discovered that the world had changed beyond recognition. Restoring Qingling Temple would be a long and arduous task.
The earth shook violently. The sun darkened like a blanket of wool, the full moon turned red as blood, and stars fell from the sky. Gale-force winds rocked the world, and heaven and earth shifted from their proper places. The blood moon appeared, triggering the evolution of species. Humanity faced an enormous struggle to survive, a battle between life and death in which there was no turning back, only forward.
The heroine is ridiculously powerful / plot-focused / written for the author's own enjoyment, with an ensemble cast coming into their own, satisfying action, and cultivation elements.
Please add my next book, “I Transmigrated into a Restriction-Rated Novel as a Little Widow,” to your reading list!
What’s it like to transmigrate into a restriction-rated rural novel set in Northeast China, one you once acted in?
The original heroine was vain and greedy. She kept Lin Feng, the village’s richest livestock farmer, on the hook while flirting with her university-educated brother-in-law, Jiang Yan. She cheated both men out of money and affection, and constantly made life difficult for the innocent heroine, Bai Lianhua. In the end, she died miserably.
An Ning: Thanks for asking, but I refuse to follow the original plot. To hell with the fade-to-black romance, and to hell with passionate encounters in the cornfield!
She’d acted for over a decade before she transmigrated into a book, so she knew the original plot by heart. She knew exactly who was going to suffer and who was going to strike it rich.
She ignored all the village gossip.
So what if it was the late 1980s? So what if she was in the countryside of Northeast China? She had two hands, two feet, and a brain. There was no way she’d starve. Making money was what mattered! Once she had saved enough, she’d leave town and let those two lousy men and the ridiculous plot go to hell!
But before she could make a move, Lin Feng came to see her of his own accord. He showed up every few days, bringing meat and grain, plowing fields and building houses, with no attempt to hide his intentions.
The script described Lin Feng as Lingshan Village’s biggest livestock farmer, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and long, powerful limbs. He was the kind of man who could make your knees go weak at first sight. An Ning had thought the description was over-the-top, but now that he was standing in front of her, she knew the screenwriter hadn’t exaggerated at all.
Before An Ning could collect herself, the man had her cornered in the yard.
Lin Feng gripped her lower back, his breath hot and ragged, like a beast that had held itself back for too long and finally let go of all restraint.
“Ningning.” His voice was hoarse, almost pleading. “Let me kiss you. Just once. I’ll give you anything you want.”
His scorching body heat came through her coarse clothes, making her shiver all over. An Ning was stunned.
“You’re crazy.”
“Yeah, I’m crazy.” Lin Feng stared at her with burning eyes. His sharply defined face wore an almost fierce intensity. “I’ve been crazy since the day you married into Lingshan Village.”
What unsettled her even more was Jiang Yan.
The day Jiang Yan returned, the whole village thought he’d studied himself stupid.
He was a top student from a prestigious university in the provincial capital, yet he’d turned down a city job just to come back to this poor mountain village.
At first, An Ning had thought the Jiang Yan in the script was aloof and proud, and utterly disgusted by his promiscuous sister-in-law, the original heroine.
But the Jiang Yan standing before her seemed like a completely different person from the one in the script.
Late one night, unable to sleep, An Ning went out into the yard for some air. The moment she opened the door, she ran straight into a warm embrace.
Jiang Yan’s features were cool and refined. He wrapped an arm around her waist, holding her with a strength that left no room to break free.
“Sister-in-law, where are you going so late?”
