Also known as: Creating a Serial Killer; My Archnemesis Is a Beagle, What Do I Do If I Can't Beat Him?
Lie-flat, lazy, bored, hapless office worker, human top x high-energy, passionate, money-loving beagle bottom
Chen Nian is a hapless office worker at a media company. He spends his workdays zoning out and his evenings lying around like a corpse.
One day, while he was "performing" at work, the director brought in a kid and said he was Chen Nian's new partner.
The new partner was low-key and mysterious, had informants everywhere, and had plenty of major scoops in hand.
His coworkers envied Chen Nian for getting to ride his coattails to success.
Chen Nian gave a soulless, fake smile. "Same to you." He just wanted to keep coasting and waiting to die.
But on their very first day working together, he saw his partner turn into a beagle and chase a con man pretending to be a cripple for two miles through the busy streets.
Chen Nian: This damned job has finally driven me insane.
Chen Nian was shocked. Chen Nian accepted it. Chen Nian backed away as far as possible.
The new partner looked down on Chen Nian for having no journalistic ambition and doing nothing but slacking off and lying flat.
Chen Nian hated that his partner was a show-off with no sense of discipline and no social skills. Neither of them could stand the other.
Before Chen Nian could even start looking for a new partner, an old article offended a major sponsor, leaving him with two choices: quit or cling to his partner and break a major story.
Chen Nian chose the second option.
But he hadn't expected his partner to have such a wild network!
The German Shepherd in the anti-drug squad had been his partner's informant for ages. The Samoyed in the children's hospital gossiped with his partner every day. Even the dog cafe downstairs and the dogs in the hardest-to-access wealthy neighborhood were "old friends."
His partner was full of enthusiasm, and every story was a major scoop.
A tip Chen Nian came across by chance led to a serial murder case.
A famous livestream host is caught up in rumors of her death, only to make a dramatic comeback the very next day?
The knife wounds on an unidentified body in the sewer exactly match marks on the murder weapon that the police haven't made public?
A serial killer's crimes follow the plot of a novel to the letter?
Chen Nian was forced to work himself to the bone, following his partner around and cleaning up the messes that were about to blow up in their faces.
Heavens above! Stop picking on an honest man!
