Quiet, dependable, older dad-type male lead x carefree little sister who loves boldly and hates just as fiercely
Snowbound mountain lodge / Reunited with an ex / Mending a broken relationship / Each other's first love
Fu Wei and Zhou Qian had an ugly breakup.
She thought he was too controlling and had to manage everything. He thought she had no plans for the future and treated life like a game.
They hurled cruel words at each other, wishing never to cross paths again and to remain strangers for the rest of their lives.
But fate loves a badly timed joke. Her best friend's mountain wedding invitation had gone to him, too.
Fu Wei forced a fake smile for the camera, rolling her eyes inwardly. The guests pushed her over to stand beside him, leaving them with a photo in which both looked thoroughly displeased.
Their friend, serving as the emcee, stood by the fireplace and shouted, “Let’s wish that love, like this fire, will never go out!”
Before he had finished, a tremendous rumble came from the distant mountains.
The white tidal wave of an avalanche swallowed every sound.
Through the roses strewn across the wreckage, the toppled champagne tower, and the unshaken terror on everyone’s faces, Fu Wei opened her eyes to the ghastly light. The first person she saw was still Zhou Qian, standing at the opposite end of the diagonal.
Communications were down, and supplies were limited.
The lodge that had once held their loudest youth and most passionate love had, in an instant, gone from a romantic wedding venue to a frozen island of survival.
At first, Zhou Qian managed to maintain the infuriating calm that was so typical of him. He even offered her a word of comfort: “Don’t be afraid.”
Fu Wei didn't want his sympathy. She would rather he go completely silent, as he had when they broke up, than offer her this composure that felt like charity.
But while sorting through the supplies, she discovered that the bottle of strong whiskey she had buried years ago was carefully wrapped in velvet and tucked into the most hidden corner of his room.
“Zhou Qian,” she asked hoarsely beside the flickering fire,
“what’s the meaning of this?”
He didn't answer.
His old controlling ways and constant lectures had become careful arrangements that accounted for every detail. Their old carefree ways had become cautious tenderness toward each other. For a while, Fu Wei thought that if the storm never stopped, perhaps they really could get back together here.
But on the seventh day, when the last of the canned food had been opened and he calmly laid out his plan to risk going outside for help,
Fu Wei slapped him in front of everyone.
“Listen.”
“Don’t even think about going alone.”
“If we go out, we go together. If we stay, we stay together.”
“Either we live together, or we die together.”
The blizzard sealed off the mountains, leaving them alone in a desolate world.
In this desperate place, love was the only thing that grew wild.
