Su Leyan spent five years struggling in the entertainment industry, but never managed to rise above the eighteenth tier.
Just before he was about to quit, he gritted his teeth and accepted the first leading role of his life.
A two-male-lead drama.
Su Leyan consoled himself: at least he was a main character.
But it wasn’t until right before filming began that Su Leyan learned the other male lead had just returned from studying abroad (too young), had never acted before (zero acting skills), and came from a family several generations into its fortune (hard to deal with).
Most importantly, apparently the guy hadn’t even known at first that his other co-star was a man. His own cousin, who was also the director, had sweet-talked and tricked him into joining the project, then conned him into becoming its biggest investor, a world-class sucker who had been swindled out of both his body and his money.
Su Leyan: So... is this drama even going to get made?
Cen Zhiyan wanted to try acting because of something someone said.
So he kept it from his family and went down an alternative route, only to be tricked by his own cousin into joining the project.
Then, right before filming began, he learned that he was supposed to kiss a man on a boat.
Cen Zhiyan immediately wanted to break his contract and fly back overseas that very night!
Kiss a man on a boat? Absolutely not!
But his contract had him firmly in a bind, so in the end he had no choice but to grit his teeth and go along with it.
The first time Su Leyan and Cen Zhiyan met:
Cen Zhiyan: This guy is so handsome and still isn’t famous. Is there something wrong with him?
Su Leyan: This rich kid looks so constipated. Can they really finish filming this drama?
“Let’s get this straight right now: no unnecessary behavior outside of filming.”
At their first conversation, Cen Zhiyan bluntly warned Su Leyan.
His whole body practically spelled out, “I’m straight. Stay away from me.”
Su Leyan agreed and took the words to heart.
He only trained, rehearsed scenes, and practiced lines with Cen Zhiyan when necessary. He studied the characters in the script with him, helped him get into character, and did his best to be the most professional co-star possible.
But as filming went on, Cen Zhiyan seemed to get more and more carried away.
He wanted to add more kissing scenes, and kept calling for retakes on the boat scenes... all under the pretext of “sacrificing himself for art.”
Later, when the drama aired, their couple pairing became wildly popular, and Cen Zhiyan got even more carried away with fanservice.
Seeing Cen Zhiyan go further and further overboard, Su Leyan had to remind him, “You’re getting too immersed in the role.”
Cen Zhiyan stared at Su Leyan for a long moment. “Bullshit. Haven’t you heard what our fans say about me?”
“No acting skills, all feelings!”
So what if he was getting too immersed in the role?
Onscreen it was you, and offscreen it was still you. You were the only one.
