Synopsis
Cold, unfeeling female physician x tough, tender-hearted Embroidered Uniform Guard
Takes in a man | Older man | He falls for her first | Mutual redemption | Size difference
Xia Yunfei, daughter of the Lord of Qinghe City in the northern borderlands, is renowned as a miracle physician. Her medical skills have saved countless lives, but she is cold and unsociable.
At the time, war raged along the border. When Xia Yunfei went outside the city to gather herbs, she found a man in the snow, dressed in prisoner's clothes and covered in blood.
The man looked like trouble, but a jade pendant had fallen from him. It was the pendant of her younger brother, who had died unjustly in the capital.
She brought the man back into the city and discovered that he had been struck by a strange poison. When the Seven Torments poison flared up, he would gradually lose his senses, and no medicine could cure him.
She could not rid him of the poison, so she could only keep him alive for the time being.
At first, the man seemed very obedient. Though he looked burly and rough, he swept and cooked every day, washed clothes, and folded them.
"Miss Xia saved my life. I'm just an ordinary man, so this is the only way I can repay you."
As time went by, Xia Yunfei truly came to think of him as an ordinary man.
That was until the flames of war reached Qinghe. Blindfolded with white cloth, he struck with every blow, fierce and precise.
Though covered in blood, he carefully lifted her by the waist and carried her up onto the city wall, afraid that the bodies littering the ground would soil her clothes.
Later, he returned to the capital in a splendid flying-fish uniform, a Xiuchun saber at his waist.
No one knew that after returning home, the decisive and ruthless Embroidered Uniform Guard would bury his face in a physician's neck and breathe in the medicinal scent that clung to her.
"Miss Xia, please take pity on me..."
In the winter of Yongning's eighteenth year, Pei Ji killed the ninth son of Prince Shun at the memorial hall of his dear friend, Xia Chengyun.
The emperor was furious, but in consideration of Pei Ji's father's distinguished military service, he sentenced Pei Ji to exile in Qinghe, never to return to the capital.
Dressed in mourning white and shackled, he climbed into the prisoner cart, only to be attacked in a blizzard outside Qinghe City.
The assassins had coated their blades with a strange poison. Fortunately, the horse leading the way was intelligent and carried him all the way to the gates of Qinghe City.
A woman saved him. When he heard her familiar voice, he felt his heart skip a beat.
Through the long years that followed, whenever nightmares plagued him day after day because of his hatred, he would think of her.
That day, he was lying in a banyan tree, gazing down through drunken eyes, when he saw a woman in a moon-white dress enter the courtyard.
Her features were cool and beautiful, a floral ornament on her forehead. In the reflected light, she looked like an immortal descending to earth.
One glance was enough to make her impossible to forget.
His flying-fish uniform was long in tatters, and his Xiuchun saber had rusted.
He wanted to ask: Where is justice in this world?
The Embroidered Uniform Guard was nothing but the court's lapdog.
1. One-on-one romance, both leads are sexually inexperienced.
2. Not a wish-fulfillment story. They support each other; some political scheming; happy ending.
3. Cold, unfeeling female physician x tough, tender-hearted, loyal-dog Embroidered Uniform Guard.
4. Fictional setting inspired by the Ming dynasty.
5. Mutual redemption. The female lead is imperfect. A physician should be compassionate, but this physician is not.

Pretty, greedy little palace maid x sinister eunuch with a hidden dark side
Older man | Mutual redemption | Love grows over time
"Bao'er, Bao'er, held in the palm of my hand."
Bao'er was sold into the palace as a maid when she was little. Fortunately, she managed to get in the good graces of Steward De Shun.
Little Bao'er was always following Steward De Shun around, calling him "Godfather, Godfather."
Everyone in the palace and court said eunuchs were filthy and vile by nature.
But Bao'er didn't think so. When she called Steward De Shun her godfather, he treated her like his own daughter, looking after and protecting her in every way.
As a result, Bao'er's life in the palace was fairly peaceful. She did light work, had enough to eat and warm clothes, and no one bullied her.
But as Bao'er grew older, she became more and more lovely. One day, the Noble Consort happened to catch sight of her.
The noblewoman, born of a high-ranking family, wore splendid robes and swaying golden hairpins. From a distance, she looked at Bao'er with a trace of disdain.
"I recall that Eunuch Chunxiu of the Directorate of Ceremonial is about your age. Today, in a fit of generosity, I shall grant the two of you as partners." The Noble Consort covered her nose with a handkerchief, as if Bao'er were filthy.
Trembling, Bao'er bowed her head and thanked her for the favor.
With that one show of gratitude, she was locked behind the palace walls for the rest of her life.
Steward De Shun told Bao'er that Eunuch Chunxiu was the favorite godson of the Chief Eunuch of the Directorate of Ceremonial.
The Chief Eunuch wielded immense power but had a dark and vicious temperament, while Eunuch Chunxiu was just as cold and obsessive. Everyone feared them.
The Noble Consort clearly wanted to make Bao'er's life miserable.
Bao'er first met Chunxiu beneath a sky full of moonlight. He really was a young man close to Bao'er's age, handsome in a delicate, feminine way, yet surrounded by an aura of decay.
He had looked at Bao'er with cold eyes.
He had also killed someone in front of her, and had flown into a frenzy.
Yet that same Chunxiu later held Bao'er close, their cheeks and hair entwined.
He said, "Bao'er is a lovely name. Bao'er, Bao'er, held in the palm of my hand."
He said, "Bao'er, all I want in this life is you. I will protect no one but you. You must be happy."
He said, "Bao'er, could you stay with me forever?"
Everyone said the palace maid Bao'er was lucky. Steward De Shun had raised her as if she were his own daughter, and Chunxiu had later held her in his hands and cherished her in his heart.
But who knew that Bao'er's little bit of true affection was worth more than a thousand pieces of gold?
Two ordinary people supporting each other.
