The Fourth Calamity Wreaks Havoc on the World: A Super AU
Clark knows his world is just a game, because he seems to have died outside the game? Anyway, Clark really likes this game.
Earth-1 and all the other Earths Clark knows are almost exactly alike. The dark Batman and the shining Son of Tomorrow. They’re the world’s best partners. Clark loves that title and the CG scenes most of all.
But doing daily quests 24/7 and putting up with NPCs’ scolding, along with the endless +1, -1, +1, -1 reputation loop, finally gets on Clark’s nerves. He starts a genocide run.
In the end, on a whim, he taunts the dark Batman, only to be killed in return. As he lies dying, he hears the “NPC” tell him, “I really did love you...”
In that moment, Clark’s bored heart starts beating again. He feels excited.
He can reload his save anyway, so why not try again?
Bruce has a small-town-boy partner. He’s bright and kind, and Bruce likes him very much.
Then one day, this bright partner suddenly shows his true nature and kills everyone.
Bruce never thought his indulgence and softness would destroy the world, leaving monsters to slaughter people until the land was strewn with corpses.
After Bruce kills the monster, the universe suddenly reboots. The monster in front of him is smiling.
Bruce is calm. Perhaps Doomsday’s toxins have turned him into a cruel, unforgiving monster too.
He smiles back at Clark.
He will shatter the monster’s fangs and pin down his throat, and the monster will tear at his flesh in return. He thinks that the destruction of Earth in his previous life was his sin, and that his life-and-death entanglement with the monster after the reboot is the price he must pay.
Superman/Batman in the early chapters, not much; Batman/Superman in the later chapters, the main pairing.
Mini-scene:
Clark Kent: (thinking he can reload and get a different ending, he flies over with his most sincere smile) B~
Bruce Wayne: (seeing that face after the reboot triggers him, so he pulls out a kryptonite spear) First blood! (Clark Kent falls)
After reloading, Clark Kent: (thinking he smiled too widely, he gives a small smile) Hi, B~
Bruce Wayne: (expressionless, pulls out the spear) Double Kill!
Third reload, Clark Kent: (serious face) B
Bruce Wayne: Triple Kill!
Clark Kent: ...? System bug?
Clark Kent remains undeterred.
