Fan Zhuo had never been able to get Ying Heyun's name out of his life.

Unlike rebellious Fan Zhuo, Ying Heyun was a few years older and the perfect childhood friend: handsome, clever, gentle, and polite, the kind of kid every parent wanted.

With their parents constantly nagging him to learn from his older brother, Fan Zhuo couldn't help getting rebellious. He secretly turned it into a one-sided competition, swearing he'd surpass his brother and make him look at him with admiration.

As a result, he spent his entire adolescence chasing after his brother.

While preparing for exams, he'd stare at his brother's photo on the school's honors board and clench his fists. After a while, he'd return to class and write ten practice tests in a fit of determination. When he got tired, he'd come back for another look, creating a perpetual motion machine.

Classmates passing by would marvel. In private, they thought he had a crush on this outstanding upperclassman, and were deeply moved by his devotion.

Fan Zhuo had no idea.

The more attention he paid, the more invested he became. When he had time, he'd analyze every post in his brother's social media feed: what he wore that day, what classes he took. When there were no new updates, he'd shamelessly message him to ask.

If he spotted anyone suspicious, he didn't waste time worrying. He'd just send the photo over. "Who is this guy? The way he's looking at you is weird."

Ying Heyun: "A classmate."

Fan Zhuo insisted, "Classmate or not, it's still not okay. No dating in school."

Ying Heyun paused, then said slowly, "Is it possible that I'm already in college and an adult?"

Fan Zhuo felt a little guilty but still stubbornly retorted, "That doesn't make it okay. You have to set a good example for your little brother, got it? I haven't graduated yet. You can't date someone and lead me astray."

"..." Ying Heyun said, "Never mind. I'm hanging up."

"Hey!" Fan Zhuo panicked. "Anyway, no dating! I'm going to call you every day and check up on you!"

At the wedding, Fan Zhuo's middle-school classmates remarked that he'd had a crush on his senior for ages, and after years of chasing him, had finally won the beauty's heart.

Ying Heyun's college classmates said that couldn't be right. Heyun's little boyfriend had still been in high school when he started video-calling to check up on him, and he'd kept a very close eye on him.

Their mutual friends said, "What are you talking about? They're childhood friends. They met ages ago, grew up together, saw each other every day, and sat at the same table for every holiday meal."

The whole group looked at each other in confusion, while onstage, Fan Zhuo held his older brother's hand and grinned triumphantly.
