Honey Cupcake

[The 47th time honey met morning light, fermenting into the shape of love]

Gu Cheng has an unwavering habit:

At 7:30 every morning, he stops by Sweet Talk Bakery for a croissant and a black coffee to go.

On the forty-seventh day, the baker, Lin Shen, finally speaks up:

“Would you like to try our new honey cupcake?”

From then on, “pleasant surprises” start appearing in Gu Cheng's breakfast bag.

An extra honey almond cookie,

A jar of homemade lemon frosting,

A note saying, “It's getting colder today. Remember to bundle up.”

The reporter only realizes belatedly that

someone new has been pinned to the top of his WeChat,

his weekends are starting to revolve around the bakery,

and the man in the white chef's jacket

looks at him with a tenderness thicker than honey.

Lin Shen methodically advances his “baking plan”:

Step 1: Keep him coming back with the perfect recipe.

Step 2: Make his presence known with just the right amount of care.

Step 3: Let the sweetness of honey slowly seep into their everyday lives.

Step 4: Wait for a rainy evening, then ask amid the aroma of freshly baked bread:

“Want to come have breakfast at my place tomorrow?”
