An anthology of stories about humans and nonhumans
[World One: Human and House]
Wen Shili moves into a strange old house. The family of three living with him consists of a controlling father, a brother with a sadistic streak, and a younger brother who has taken a leave of absence from school because of a violent incident. All three are hostile toward him.
But compared to the fact that no matter how many times he kills them, the three just won't die, Wen Shili thinks their personality issues are minor problems.
After living there for a while, Wen Shili realizes that he actually has another "housemate."
One day, he knocks on the wall and asks, "I'm planning to kill your three Hosts for good. Can you help me?"
"Sure." The wall answers with a sound, then asks, "Will you keep living in me after that?"
"All right," Wen Shili agrees. "By the way, can you make breakfast automatically every morning?"
[World Two: Human and Dragon]
A dragon that has lived alone for centuries firmly believes that gold coins and jewels are the most valuable things to collect. It can't understand why its fellow dragons these days enjoy bringing princes and princesses home, but in an effort to keep up with the trend, it finally decides to capture a human and add them to its collection as a modern collectible.
Lin Yan works at the Royal Library, where he's busy revising the sixth edition of A Guide to the Biology of Nonhuman Races. He strikes a deal with the dragon, brings along his biological sketchbook, and moves into the dragon's cave that very night.
They sign a temporary "rental agreement." Lin Yan diligently treats the dragon as a "subject for research into dragon physiology," making the dragon regret its proposal for a while.
When the agreement expires and Lin Yan packs his bags, the dragon touches its horns and asks, "Could you stay?"
"I can give you gold coins, jewels, books, demon scraps... Anything."
[World Three: Human and Tentacles]
Deep-sea tentacles want to get married, but they have eight different opinions and eight different tastes. They can never agree on what kind of partner they want.
Ke Zhaochan solves the problem.
He nestles in a den made of tentacles and easily catches one of them in the water. "Did I pass the test?"
"Of course. We like you." The tentacle trembles in his hand, then wraps uncontrollably around his ankles and wrists. "We love you."
[World Four...]
*Human x nonhuman
*The nonhumans are not humanoid in their true forms. Some scenes together may contain a slight amount of sanity-draining horror and absurdity.
*The author made up all the settings.
