An unknown contamination shrouds the world. Beasts and plants evolve at a frenzied pace, becoming extremely aggressive and alarmingly deadly.
Fortunately, humans are evolving too, awakening all kinds of special abilities they can use to fight the evolved beasts and plants.
But as a result, this has become a world where the strong reign supreme, and the class divisions among humans are growing ever more pronounced.
Cities are divided into inner and outer districts, along with an inconspicuous slum.
The inner district has plenty of food and is safe. The outer district has its share of dangers, but if you work hard, you can still keep your stomach full. The slums, however, lack everything: no safety, no food. The only thing they have in abundance is people.
Xiang Shan transmigrates into this world as an orphan in the slums. He looks only six, but is actually ten.
When he wakes up, he rubs his ravenous belly and seriously suspects his predecessor starved to death.
Being hungry is miserable, and to survive, he has no choice but to join the adults from the slums on a hunting trip in the wild.
But not long after they leave the slums, a wild boar sets its sights on him. Thinking his life is over, he shuts his eyes and waits to die. Yet the boar doesn't attack. Instead, it nudges him with its snout, as if telling him to follow.
Xiang Shan: "..."
Honestly, he was sweating cold. He'd thought the boar would chew up his little body in an instant.
He resigns himself to following it, planning to slip away when it isn't looking. But every time he stops, the boar leading the way, a beast the size of an off-road vehicle, seems to sense it. It stops too and looks back at him.
Xiang Shan doesn't dare try anything else.
When they reach its den, he is astonished to discover that the boar seems to be caring for him as if he were its cub.
He has a vague idea of what's going on. He knows special abilities exist, and figures he must have awakened some unusual ability that made the boar think he was its cub.
To test his theory, he conducts a few experiments. Almost every wild animal he comes into contact with treats him as a young one. He thinks this might lead him to a bright future.
Xiang Shan only gets to enjoy his good fortune for a few days before he's taken away again. This time it's different: a fearsome-looking red dragon grabs him and holds him dangling in the air. The weightless sensation makes his head spin, and when he lands, he rushes to a corner and throws up for a while before he recovers.
Knowing the red dragon won't hurt him, he comfortably explores the cave. That's when he sees the red-and-gold dragon egg.
His gaze is immediately drawn to it. He slowly approaches and finds that the egg is half his height. It feels warm to the touch, and when it seems to sense someone touching it, a tapping sound comes from inside the shell.
Soon, the shell cracks, and a little red dragon with golden patterns on its body wriggles out. It eats the rest of its eggshell before turning its eyes to Xiang Shan.
