Ji Shanhe was an ordinary company employee. She sat still and wrote code at work, then went back to her rented apartment and played on her phone after work. She had kept up this unchanging routine for eight years.

Her thick, eye-covering blunt bangs, ugly oversized black-framed glasses, and gloomy aura kept her from making any friends. Ji Shanhe thought she would remain single until the day she grew old.

Until one day, she accidentally knocked over her new coworker’s coffee.

The scalding liquid splashed onto her coworker’s hand, but the woman seemed not to feel any pain. She simply held on to Ji Shanhe’s hand and smiled brightly. “As long as you’re okay.”

Ji Shanhe’s heart was pounding so fast that she failed to notice how strange the situation was.

Her face turned red beneath her black frames.

Xia Yuguo was the new blood in the company’s publicity department. She was good at smiling cheerfully, and at devouring the gloomy aura in the world.

She wasn’t human. She was a shapeless alien exiled from a place 5.2 million light-years away from Earth.

She could take on any form she wanted.

Earth’s fertile soil provided an abundant food supply. The only problem was that, sooner or later, she would get tired of eating it.

Just as Xia Yuguo was preparing to move on, she met a human who gave off a delicious aroma.

And the more closely she got to know this human, the more wonderful her scent became.

Xia Yuguo thought that perhaps she could stay on Earth a little longer.

Xia Yuguo had recently run into a rather troublesome situation.

The human she had treated as a source of food had asked to become her partner.

Aliens didn’t need human partners.

Aliens shouldn’t reproduce with humans, either.

Of course, she had to refuse.

Xia Yuguo discovered that from then on, she could no longer feed on the scent of humans.

That human had started avoiding her.

Xia Yuguo split herself into many pieces.

Some of her was in the flowerpot on the windowsill of the rented apartment, some on the table piled with takeout, and some in the bathroom faucet.

Each piece of her body was an eye through which she watched the human.

After being rejected by her, this human had quickly fallen into the arms of another creature.

That creature had made her scent unbearable to Xia Yuguo.

Xia Yuguo was very unhappy.

She would punish her.

Actually, becoming a human’s partner wasn’t that difficult.

First, take off her glasses. Then use a newly formed limb to cover her mouth, lock her firmly by your side, and explore further, until she no longer has the strength to resist, inside or out.

Make her heart and body belong entirely to me.

Make her lose all desire to escape.

Then smile gently, so she feels safe.

Just like that.

So, as the Snow Woman swept her sleeve at Gu Pu, Gu Pu’s tears turned into droplets and rolled to the ground.

Chun let one person go.

The most beautiful person in that group.

And the one who cried the most.

Seven days later.

Chun transformed into a human woman and knocked on the door of Gujiabao on a stormy, snowy night.

The woman, hidden among her many sisters, gave her an astonished look.

So she’s a faithless woman, Chun thought.

She would kill her.

The seven days passed quickly.

But Gu Pu was the only one to return to Gujiabao.

She brought with her a beautiful woman who had suddenly appeared, kind and virtuous.

Those blue eyes were exactly like the Snow Woman’s in the legends.

Gu Pu, the only one who wasn’t an heir, soon became the woman’s betrothed.

As they spent time together, murderous intent and affection shifted back and forth in the woman’s eyes.

Gu Pu pretended not to notice, and continued to lure her in with the most innocent of expressions.

Gu Pu knew she was dancing on the edge of a blade.

But so what?

What she had always wanted was the Snow Woman’s wholehearted tolerance and favor.

She wanted the Snow Woman to push her boundaries for her, again and again.

Otherwise, how could she make the Snow Woman her blade?

Chun’s murderous intent melted away in Gu Pu’s tender whispers, soft sobs, and tear-filled eyes.

Every night, Chun nearly drowned in the other woman’s treacherous embrace.

She loved her.

And she loved her, too.

Chun thought that at last she understood the bonds between people.

Before the blade could be forged, their love was already broken.

Her excessive trust had allowed the other woman’s ambition to grow unchecked. By the time Chun realized Gu Pu had been using her, all their sweet words had turned to bubbles.

Chun could forgive the other woman for breaking their agreement, but she could not forgive the fact that from beginning to end, it had all been a deception.

On a stormy, snowy night, Chun left Gujiabao for good.

She took with her the snow that had fallen without cease on the mountain for three hundred years.

And she took Gu Pu’s true feelings, hidden beneath her manipulations.
